Job summary

Brookhaven National Laboratory seeks an electrical engineer to design and maintain power systems for its large-scale facilities. You will develop drawings, perform fault studies, and support outages, with focus on high and medium voltage distribution up to 69kV.

The role requires a bachelor’s in electrical engineering and 7+ years of experience, with knowledge of ETAP, SKM PowerTools, AutoCAD, and NEC/NFPA standards. Strong teamwork and safety training are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related discipline.
• 7+ years of experience in electrical power systems engineering in campus/utility/industrial settings, or 6+ years with a Master’s.
• Strong knowledge of electrical distribution systems.
• Experience with overhead/underground transmission and distribution voltages (69kV, 13.8kV, 2.4kV, 480V, 208V).
• Ability to prepare and review one-line/three-line diagrams and DC control schematics.
• Experience with protective relays selection and coordination studies.
• Proficiency with ETAP, SKM PowerTools, AutoCAD and MS Office.
• Ability to read underground utility drawings and P&ID drawings.

Responsibilities

• Perform electrical engineering design to support maintenance and operation of large-scale facilities and systems.
• Develop drawings and bid specifications for outages and planned maintenance.
• Layout and design of electrical equipment including switchgear, MCCs, panels, and VFDs.
• Review and implement safety procedures; deliver electrical safety training.
• Identify projects, estimate materials, costs, and staffing needs.
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders and utilities for reliable power delivery.
• Support commissioning, testing, and acceptance of new installations.
