Job summary

Southern Company is seeking an Electrical Physical Designer for Power Generation Systems in Birmingham, AL. The role develops comprehensive electrical designs for projects across the fleet, producing drawings and material lists to support construction, operation, and maintenance.

The position combines field and office work with hybrid scheduling and travel up to 25%. A strong background in AutoDesk, 3D modeling, and electrical design standards is required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required; technical training preferred.
• Associate degree preferred but not required.
• Proficiency in AutoDesk Suite and Microsoft Office.
• 3D design and 3D modeling experience required.
• Experience with heavy industrial facilities or new construction design is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop, check, and coordinate designs and drawings for plant electrical systems per codes and standards.
• Prepare electrical power system designs including equipment, cable tray, conduit, grounding, lighting, and 3D modeling.
• Review vendor design documents for conformance to design requirements.
• Provide on-site support during construction, startup, and checkout.
• Collaborate with engineering disciplines, clients, suppliers, and contractors to produce integrated designs.
• Define project scope, provide schedule input, create material takeoffs, and review fabrication drawings.
• Efficiently resolve engineering related issues.
