Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in the energy and industrial sector seeks a CAD drafter with a strong background in electrical design. You will work in a multi-disciplinary team, create scale drawings, and expand your 3D CAD skills with AutoCAD 3D or MicroStation.

The role is hybrid with three days in the office and two remote days, requiring an Associate degree in drafting or equivalent and six years of design experience including grounding layouts and conduit drawings.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in drafting, or a high school diploma with equivalent design experience.
  • Six (6) or more years of physical design experience including grounding layouts, underground duct bank, embedded conduit drawings, cable tray and exposed conduit layouts, and electrical equipment location drawings.
  • Advanced drafting experience using AutoCAD or MicroStation.
  • Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of the computer.
  • Ability to multi-task from project to project.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare design drawings based on input from a multi-disciplined team.
  • Apply CAD skills while receiving hands-on training in 3D design software environments like AutoCAD 3D or MicroStation.
  • Create drawings to scale showing relation of proposed installations to existing facilities and exact specifications and dimensions.
  • Accompany and assist experienced designers on walkdowns at client facilities to gather information.
  • Interface with vendors and construction contractors to explain drawings for design adjustments.

This role offers a hybrid work arrangement. You'll spend three days a week in the office, giving you the flexibility to work remotely for two days.

  • This position will offer you the opportunity to utilize and expand your drafting skills, while working in a multi-disciplined team environment with other designers and/or engineers in the preparation of design drawings based on design input
  • You will have the opportunity to apply your computer-aided drafting skills, while receiving hands-on training in 3D design software environments, such as AutoCAD 3D and/or MicroStation.
  • You will be involved in creating drawings to scale showing relation of proposed installations to existing facilities and exact specifications and dimensions
  • You may accompany and assist experienced designers on walkdowns at client facilities to gather information for your design project
  • While interfacing with vendors and construction contractors, you may be given the opportunity to explain your drawings so appropriate design adjustments can be made

Essential Skills And Experience
  • An Associate's Degree in drafting, or a high school diploma and equivalent technical design experience

  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of technical plans, drawings, and models
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including the ability to relate various equipment to a technical design
