Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in the United States is seeking an Electrical/Instrumentation & Controls designer for the Energy & Industrial Group. The hybrid role includes three days in the office and two remote days, focusing on 2D/3D drafting for power plants and large-scale facilities.

You will create wiring diagrams, layouts, and plan drawings while coordinating with designers, engineers, and vendors. You will aid engineers in initial design requirements, visualize components in 3D, and travel as needed

Qualifications

• HS diploma or equivalent technical design experience.
• Six+ years in Electrical/Instrumentation & Controls design, incl. 2D & 3D.
• Advanced drafting with AutoCAD or MicroStation on large industrial facilities.
• Ability to visualize parts in 3D without a computer.
• Ability to multi-task across projects.

Responsibilities

• Create wiring diagrams and schematics for installers and electricians.
• Produce physical and plan drawings to scale showing installations relative to facilities.
• Work with vendors/contractors to implement design adjustments.
• Assist engineers with initial design requirements.
• Interface with engineering and design teams across disciplines Energy & Industrial facilities.

Description

This role offers a hybrid work arrangement.You'llspend three days a week in the office, giving you the flexibility to work remotely for two days.

• This position will offer you the opportunity toutilizeand expand your drafting skills, while working in a multi-disciplined team environment with other designers and/or engineers in the preparation of design drawings based on designinput.

• You will have the opportunity to apply your computer-aided drafting skills, while receiving hands-on training in design software environments, such as AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.

• Work as part ofthe Energy & Industrial Groupas anElectrical/Instrumentation & Controlsdesigner fora variety of projects which may include Power Generation Stations, Oil & Gas facilities, Carbon Capture/Emissions Controls, etc.

• You will be involved in creatingphysical and plandrawings to scale,showing relationofproposed installations to existing facilities and exact specifications and dimensions, as well as various non-physical drawings anddiagrams.

• You mayaccompanyandassistexperienced designers on walkdowns at client facilities to gather information for your designproject.

• Whileinterfacing withvendors and construction contractors, you may be given the opportunityto explain yourdrawingssoappropriate designadjustments can be made.

• Utilize company and project draftingand designstandards, adheres to plans and schedules

Essential skills and experience:

• Ahigh school diploma and equivalent technical design experience

• Six (6) or more years ofElectrical/Instrumentation & Controlsdesign experience, including 2D & 3D.

• Advanced drafting experience using standard computer drafting tools (i.e.AutoCAD or MicroStation)onpower plants orotherlarge-scaleindustrialfacilitiesprojects

• Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of thecomputer.

• Ability to multi-task from project to project

Valued but nostrequiredskills and experience:

• Associates Degree in ComputerAided Design

• Experience usingbothAutoCAD and MicroStationsoftware.

• Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including the ability to relate various equipment to a technicaldesign.

• Experience in the development of grounding layouts, underground duct bank and embedded conduit drawings, cable tray and exposed conduit layouts,instrumentlocationplans,area classification plans,and electrical equipment location drawings.

• Design experience in the development of single-line, andrelay and metering diagrams, including medium-voltage and 480V systems.

• Familiarity with digital control systems.

• The ability to perform the following:

• Produce wiring diagrams and schematics for installers andelectricians.

• Assistengineers withinitialdesignrequirements.

• Conceptualize plans and details to accurately convey wiring terminationrequirements.

• The ability tointerfaceand communicate with engineering and design teams of otherdisciplinesEnergy & Industrial facilities designprocess.

• Strong knowledge and ability to create; interconnection wiring diagrams, conduit/cable schedules, loop diagrams, area classification plans,

• Experience with3D Lighting Calculationprograms, and experiencein Heat trace designpreferred.

• Ability to interpret P&IDs, Instrumentationwiringand provide I&C input into P&IDs.

• Abilityto travel as necessary for client meetings, job site visits,assistin data gathering, etc.

Compensation Range

$64,817 - $93,201
