Job Description

1. Role Purpose:

The electrical mechanical technician’s responsibilities include installation, repair, preventative maintenance, upgrade, and testing of both the electronic and mechanical aspects of plant-wide systems. Electro-mechanical technicians combine knowledge of mechanical technology with electrical and electronic circuits, HMI/PLC systems.

2. Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on equipment (e.g., pneumatic systems, material handling equipment, hydraulic equipment, dock equipment, electronic and electrical equipment) according to safety and quality procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and repair complex electrical/electronic systems.
  • Perform instrument calibration to meet company and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Engineering teams to prevent machine downtime and enhance line output.
  • Document machine issues accurately after repairs.
  • Operate material handling, battery, and other powered equipment following standard procedures.
  • Troubleshoot/diagnose PLC/HMI control systems, sensors, camera systems, and high-speed machinery.
  • Support manufacturing equipment systems under Plant Maintenance Management.
  • Perform and document preventive and corrective maintenance as needed.
  • Communicate machine issues and downtime effectively to other shifts and management.
  • Assist with offline machine rebuilds or pre-work.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electronic, and electrical problems using technical drawings.

4. Education & Experience

Education Requirement: Background in electrical, electronic, or mechanical fields; technical apprenticeship or associate degree preferred, with relevant job experience potentially substituting formal education.

Experience Requirement: Minimum 5 years in a technician role performing equipment repairs and preventative maintenance.

5. Technical competencies/ Certifications/ Licenses:

  • Experience in regulated industries like medical devices is beneficial.
  • Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and teamwork abilities.
  • Understanding of cGMP and clean room environments.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and schematics.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills, especially with PLCs.
  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements.
  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Soldering skills and experience with electrical testing equipment.
  • Familiarity with electrical circuits and mechanical tools.

6. Physical Demands & Work Environment:

a. Physical demands: Requires walking, sitting, handling tools, reaching, balancing, stooping, crouching, bending, talking, hearing, and lifting/moving up to 20 pounds. Vision abilities include close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception.
