Job summary

Russel Metals is seeking a maintenance technician responsible for electrical and mechanical repair of machinery in a metal handling environment. The role involves diagnosing issues, using hand tools and cranes, and performing preventive maintenance to maximize uptime.

The candidate must have a vocational or equivalent trade education with hands-on experience, be able to work evenings or weekends when needed, and adhere to safety policies.

Qualifications

• Vocational/Trade School education in electrical/mechanical work or Journey-level experience.
• Basic measuring skills to read and convert English and Metric systems.
• Basic arithmetic skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions.
• Experience on overhead crane operation and maintenance.
• Competent technical aptitude and manual dexterity.
• Availability for emergency call-outs evenings and/or weekends.
• Minimum 2 years experience in general maintenance repair including electrical and mechanical.

Responsibilities

• Follow all safety policies and procedures and document compliance.
• Perform pre-shift inspections of equipment.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot to identify source of electrical or mechanical issues.
• Dismantle machines and remove parts for repair; reassemble per manufacturer requirements.
• Start machines and monitor operations to detect problems.
• Read work orders and determine machines needing repair or maintenance.
• Set up and operate machines; adjust controls as required.
• Collaborate with team to repair or move equipment and parts.
• Maintain spare parts inventory and support preventive maintenance program.
