Job description

Responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire / life safety equipment within the facility are operating at peak efficiency. This involves both planned preventative maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work, and emergency response to emergent issues. The technician serves as an expert technical resource reporting to a program manager, interacting with Onsite Engineering Operations (OEO) and any third-party vendors. They are expected to be a singular focal point for all facility operations and support. Facility equipment that supports mission-critical servers must maintain better than 99.999% uptime.

Job Duties :

  • Assist in the administration and regulation of junior technicians' duties and oversee contractors’ electrical responsibilities.
  • Analyze system requirements, research equipment and procedures, and recommend modifications for new and existing systems. Install units or replacement parts following specifications and safety guidelines, utilizing MOPs, manufacturer literature, and industry best practices.
  • Apply safe working practices, including lockout/tagout, MSDS protocols, and good housekeeping. Proficient in typing and using administrative software.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and modify malfunctioning electronic units such as printed circuit boards, sensors, and advanced electrical circuits.
  • Perform maintenance, installations, and repairs on critical data center systems, industrial electrical equipment, including power distribution, electronic components, and lighting, ensuring efficient operation. Use appropriate test equipment for diagnostics and log activities in CMMS.
  • Conduct daily walk-throughs of the facility to document parameters like power, temperature, humidity, and alarm status, and monitor site BAS systems following MOPs & SOPs.
  • Manage mechanical and electrical systems during emergencies, including HVAC, power distribution, generators, UPS, DC power, fire, and life safety systems.
  • Identify materials and parts needed for maintenance and repairs; prepare and present cost estimates for procurement.
  • Maintain relationships with major vendors and oversee vendor activities during maintenance and emergency events to ensure safety and power continuity.
  • Operate electrical data capturing devices (e.g., Dranetz, Fluke PQA).
  • Create and review MOPs and SOPs to ensure up-to-date safety and technical standards.
  • Compile and review service reports from internal and vendor activities; generate reliability reports to improve efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • Train junior technicians and staff on electrical systems, maintenance, and operation.

Requirements

  • Ability to interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, plans, safety requirements, OEM instructions, and specifications.
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Organize safe maintenance activities, schedule work, and interpret building codes and regulations. Maintain compliance with environmental and safety standards.
  • Operate and inspect emergency power systems, ensuring proper functioning and adherence to MOPs and industry standards.
  • Proficient in using hand tools and test equipment for electrical troubleshooting and preventive maintenance. Ability to analyze and troubleshoot advanced electrical circuits.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of power density, HVAC capacities, and building automation systems.
  • Must be a clearable US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain HSPD & Secret clearance, preferably HSPD-12 & Secret Active.

Physical Abilities :

  • Lift at least 100 pounds, and 60 pounds for extended periods.
  • Relocate a 12-foot ladder unaided.
  • Work at heights up to 60 feet, climb scaffolds, lifts, catwalks, and ladders.
  • Perform physical activities such as walking, climbing, lifting, squatting, crawling, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and reaching overhead.
  • Good vision (corrected if necessary), color vision, hearing, and communication in English.
  • Use ladders and tools safely within weight limits.
  • Recognize potential problems, analyze information, and identify relationships among events.
  • See details at close range and understand spoken information effectively.
