Job summary

Russell Tobin is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer in Fremont, CA. The role focuses on CAD, wire harness, cable, and electronic module packaging, with emphasis on interconnects, BOMs, and manufacturing documentation.

You will design harnesses, translate system schematics into wiring diagrams, select components, and create 2D drawings for production. Collaboration with cross-functional teams and rigorous attention to detail are essential for on-time delivery.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of related engineering/design experience preferred.
  • Experience with system interconnect, cable, and wire harness design.
  • Ability to create 2D manufacturing drawings and dimensioned views.
  • Strong reading of electrical component specifications.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design manufacturing documentation for wire lists, cable/wire harness assemblies, schematics, system interconnect diagrams, and BOMs.
  • Translate system schematics into wiring diagrams and harness designs.
  • Design cables and harnesses based on voltage, current, reliability, and application requirements.
  • Select connectors, pins, cables, conductor gauges, strain relief, shielding, and related components.
  • Create, maintain, and release cable and harness drawings and engineering documentation.
  • Develop 2D drawings for production and manufacturing, including dimensions and view projections.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Track engineering issues, communicate risks, and support timely resolution.
  • Ensure accuracy, quality, and adherence to project schedules.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer with strong CAD, wire harness, cable, and electronic module packaging experience. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of electrical/mechanical components, system interconnects, BOMs, and manufacturing documentation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design manufacturing documentation for wire lists, cable/wire harness assemblies, schematics, system interconnect diagrams, and BOMs.
  • Translate system schematics into wiring diagrams and harness designs.
  • Design cables and harnesses based on voltage, current, reliability, and application requirements.
  • Select connectors, pins, cables, conductor gauges, strain relief, shielding, and related components.
  • Create, maintain, and release cable and harness drawings and engineering documentation.
  • Develop 2D drawings for production and manufacturing, including appropriate dimensions and view projections.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Track engineering issues, communicate risks, and support timely resolution.
  • Ensure accuracy, quality, and adherence to project schedules.
Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years of related engineering/design experience preferred.
  • Experience with system interconnect, cable, and wire harness design.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical/electronic components and BOMs.
  • Experience creating 2D manufacturing drawings.
  • Basic drafting knowledge, including dimensioning and view projections.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical component specifications.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience with E3 Zuken, NX 3D modeling, SAP, iPLM, or Teamcenter.
  • Experience designing complex cable and harness assemblies for high-reliability applications.
  • Knowledge of engineering standards such as IPC/WHMA-A-620, ANSI, ASME, or MIL-STD.
  • Experience with shielding, conductor sizing, connectors, pins, strain relief, and MBD.
