About the Role

We are seeking an Electrical Field Service Technician to support the deployment, integration, maintenance, and sustainment of HavocAI’s uncrewed surface vessel (USV) fleet.

This is a highly hands‑on role for someone who thrives in fast-paced, dynamic field environments and is comfortable troubleshooting complex systems under real‑world conditions. You will work across electrical, mechanical, communications, and integrated vehicle systems to diagnose issues, perform repairs and upgrades, and ensure our vehicles remain operationally ready for testing, demonstrations, and customer deployments.

You’ll work closely with engineering, operations, and customer teams to identify problems, implement solutions, and translate lessons from the field into improvements across the fleet. Success in this role requires strong technical judgment, resourcefulness, attention to detail, and the ability to solve problems independently when timelines are tight and conditions are constantly changing.

This position is based onsite at our Quonset, Rhode Island facility when not traveling and requires approximately 50–75% travel, primarily within the United States with international travel as mission needs require.

Key Responsibilities
Field Operations & Technical Support
  • Deploy to customer sites, test ranges, demonstrations, and other operational locations to provide hands‑on technical support for USVs and associated systems.

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, communications, and integrated system issues in both controlled and field environments.

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance, component replacement, repairs, and system modifications to maintain vehicle readiness.

  • Work quickly and independently to identify root causes and implement practical solutions during time‑sensitive field operations.

  • Partner with engineering teams to develop immediate corrective actions and longer‑term solutions based on field findings.

Systems Integration & Testing
  • Support vehicle systems integration, including the installation and configuration of electrical components, communications equipment, sensors, and other subsystems.

  • Install hardware modifications, system upgrades, and software updates on deployed and production vehicles.

  • Support sea trials, acceptance testing, demonstrations, and other vehicle test events.

  • Capture test results, identify system issues, and provide actionable feedback to engineering teams.

  • Verify repairs and modifications through functional testing before returning vehicles to operational use.

Deployment Readiness & Sustainment
  • Prepare vehicles, tools, equipment, spare parts, and supporting hardware for deployments and field operations.

  • Maintain service records, maintenance histories, configuration changes, inventory, and field activity reports.

  • Help establish repeatable maintenance and sustainment practices as the fleet grows.

  • Identify recurring field issues and work cross‑functionally to improve reliability, maintainability, and serviceability.

Customer & Documentation Support
  • Represent HavocAI professionally while working directly with customers, partners, and operators in the field.

  • Provide responsive, solutions‑oriented technical support in demanding and rapidly changing environments.

  • Create and maintain accurate documentation for maintenance actions, repairs, upgrades, and system changes.

  • Develop and update user manuals, maintenance procedures, troubleshooting documentation, and service guides.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in field service, maintenance, systems integration, or technical support involving complex electromechanical systems.

  • Strong hands‑on electrical troubleshooting skills, including experience diagnosing wiring, power, communications, and component‑level system issues.

  • Experience with mechanical assembly, electrical wiring, component installation, and systems integration.

  • Comfortable working on and around vessels in maritime environments.

  • Experience using electrical and diagnostic test equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, hi‑pot testers, serial communications analyzers, and similar tools.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, PCB schematics, technical drawings, and maintenance documentation.

  • Ability to learn and use software‑based diagnostic and maintenance tools, including basic scripts, commands, and troubleshooting utilities.

  • Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to operate independently with limited direction in fast‑moving environments.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, operators, customers, and other stakeholders.

  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 50–75%, including multi‑day or multi‑week domestic and potential international assignments.

  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent military or relevant industry experience will also be considered.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting maritime, aerospace, defense, robotics, or autonomous systems.

  • Experience with electrical power distribution, battery systems, electric propulsion, and internal combustion engine (ICE) propulsion systems.

  • Previous experience supporting DoD customers, military exercises, test events, or operational environments.

  • Experience with configuration management and maintaining detailed service and maintenance records.

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly as hardware, software, operational requirements, and field conditions evolve.

  • Familiarity with CAD tools, particularly SolidWorks.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Confluence, and Jira.

Location & Travel
  • Based onsite at Quonset, Rhode Island when not deployed.

  • Approximately 50–75% travel based on program and customer requirements.

  • Travel will primarily be within the United States, with international assignments as needed.

  • Field assignments may include maritime environments, test ranges, customer sites, and other operational locations.
