Job summary

New York City Fire Department's Bureau of Fire Prevention seeks qualified candidates for the Associate Inspector (Electrical) title. This open-competitive role is available to permanent civil service incumbents or applicants who have filed for Exam #6020, to help safeguard life and property across the city.

The inspector reviews electrical installations, fire alarm systems, and life safety compliance plans, licenses firms, and monitors public safety conditions.

Qualifications

  • Six years of full-time experience as electrician, designer, or inspector of electrical installations.
  • Four years of experience plus credentials (60 credits toward degree in electrical eng/tech, or equivalent).
  • Three-year apprentice program with related experience or higher education credits.
  • A professional engineer or architect license as per NY Education Law.
  • Education/experience equivalent to the above requirements.
  • Supervisory experience after meeting minimum requirements for Assignment Level II.

Education

Six years of full-time experience as electrician/designer/inspector in electrical installations

Professional engineer license or registered architect license
Equivalent education/experience to 1–3 above
One-year supervisory experience after minimum requirements (for Assignment Level II)
