Job summary

Watson Electrical Construction in Wilson, North Carolina seeks an experienced Electrical Estimator to prepare bids, analyze drawings, and develop cost estimates for commercial, industrial, and residential projects.

The ideal candidate has at least 4 years in electrical field and 2 years estimating; proficient with Accubid or similar software; strong math, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple bids.

Qualifications

  • At least 4 years of working in the electrical field.
  • At least 2 years of prior electrical estimating experience.
  • Must possess a current state driver's license.
  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • Experience with Accubid or similar software.

Responsibilities

  • Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
  • Prepare estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work and enter computer estimating system; review computer reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Request quotes from suppliers for materials and equipment.
  • Identify qualified suppliers/subcontractors and solicit quotes; review quotes for completeness with plans and specifications.
  • Itemize and quantify all incidentals necessary in preparing bid packages including subcontract work, equipment rentals, tools and suppliers.
  • Prior to issuing formal bid packages, provide detailed review of scope, technical requirements and pricing for the estimated bid package.
  • Responsible for the timely completion of all client-required documents.
  • Draft scope letter inclusions, exclusions, and clarifications for estimate figures.
  • After successful bid at project turnover, meet with Project Management to explain the estimate and scope.

SUMMARY

Estimators play a key role in driving project success by preparing competitive bids and detailed cost estimates for Watson’s electrical construction projects. They analyze drawings and specifications, uncover project requirements, and develop winning strategies that keep costs in check while positioning the team for successful project awards.

RESPONSIBILITIES (including But Not Limited To)
  • Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate
  • Prepare estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work and enter computer estimating system; review computer reports for accuracy and completeness
  • Request quotes from suppliers for materials and equipment
  • Identify qualified suppliers/subcontractors and solicit quotes. Review quotes for completeness with established plans and specifications
  • Itemize and quantify all incidentals necessary in preparing the bid packages including subcontract work, equipment rentals, tools and suppliers
  • Prior to the issuing of formal bid packages, provide principles a detailed review of scope, technical requirements and pricing for the estimated bid package
  • Responsible for the timely completion of all client-required documents
  • Draft scope letter inclusions, exclusions, and clarifications for estimate figures
  • After the successful bid at project turnover, meet with Project Management to fully explain the estimate, scope of work, quotes and offer aspects for the successful transition of the project
Position Requirements
  • Work Experience
    • Needs to be familiar with multiple types of Electrical Installation
    • At least 4 years of working in the electrical Field
    • At least 2 years of Prior Electrical Estimating experience
  • Licenses & Certifications
    • Must possess a current state driver's license
    • Applicable federal, state, and local certifications as required by job conditions or by the company (Preferred Certifications or
  • Education
    • High School Graduate or GED
  • Software
    • Experience in Accubid software Preferred or Similar software
    • Experience in Live Count preferred, but not required
    • Experience in CAD and/or 3D software preferred, but not required
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc)
    • Experience with Blue Beam preferred but not required.
  • Physical
    • Sitting and standing for extended periods, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, bending and lifting (up to 40lbs.)

  • Advanced knowledge of assigned discipline, construction technology, estimating techniques and cost control
  • Ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems
  • Strong mathematical abilities with precision in performing complex estimating calculations
  • Proficient in reading and analyzing blueprints and engineering design drawings
  • Customer-focused with ability to understand and exceed client needs and expectations
  • Ability to understand and follow standard operating policies and procedures
  • Problem solver, capable of navigating unique challenges with limited guidelines
