Job summary

Crawford Thomas Recruiting is seeking an Electrical Estimator in Roanoke, VA, to prepare accurate bids and cost estimates for electrical projects in mission-critical settings. You will review customer specs, interpret drawings, and collaborate with purchasing and HR to ensure precise labor and material costs.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years of estimating experience and solid knowledge of three-phase power, UPS systems, switchgear, and data-center electrical layouts.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of estimating experience.
  • Intermediate knowledge of construction and electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, drawings, and electrical documentation.
  • Strong written communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare cost estimates, bids, written proposals, and compliance matrices for electrical projects.
  • Review customer specifications, drawings, and project documentation to determine scope and requirements.
  • Identify discrepancies and develop clarifications and exceptions.
  • Determine material quantities, labor requirements, and total estimated job costs.
  • Obtain and incorporate pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Partner with Purchasing to maintain accurate material costs.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources to maintain accurate labor cost information.
  • Support Business Development Managers by following up on previous quotations and proposals.
  • Read and interpret one-line wiring diagrams to determine equipment and material requirements.
  • Evaluate project requirements involving industrial and mission-critical electrical systems.
  • Support the Bids and Proposals Manager and Lead Estimator with additional estimating responsibilities as needed.

The company is seeking an Electrical Estimator to prepare accurate bids, cost estimates, and written proposals based on customer specifications and project requirements.

What You'll Do
  • Prepare cost estimates, bids, written proposals, and compliance matrices for electrical projects

Technical Knowledge

The ideal candidate will have familiarity with some or all of the following:

  • Three-phase electrical power systems
  • Data-center redundancy strategies, including N, N+1, and 2N configurations
  • UPS and battery systems
  • Busway distribution systems
  • High-density data-center electrical layouts
  • Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
  • Switchgear
  • Transformers
  • Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
  • Industrial electrical equipment and associated safety considerations
  • One-line wiring diagrams
What You'll Bring
  • 2+ years of estimating experience
  • One-year certificate, associate degree, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Intermediate knowledge of construction and electrical systems
  • Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, drawings, and electrical documentation
  • Strong written communication and organizational skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to develop accurate estimates and proposals
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously

  • Experience working with suppliers and subcontractors to develop project estimates
