Qualifications

  • 8–10 years relevant experience in estimation for complex projects.
  • Ability to interpret and apply specifications and blueprints.
  • Experience in managing estimator teams is preferred.

Job description

The Lead Electrical Estimator reports directly to the Senior Preconstruction Manager and plays a pivotal role in ensuring the financial success and technical accuracy of our client’s data center projects. This role combines advanced electrical knowledge with strategic project insight to deliver accurate, competitive, and timely cost estimates.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the estimation process from take-off through bid submission, ensuring all costs are captured and aligned with project scope.
  • Develop detailed cost estimates for both new projects and change orders, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor scopes.
  • Analyze blueprints, specifications, and design documents to accurately assess project requirements and risks.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, scope reviews, and client consultations to provide technical and cost input.
  • Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and vendors to gather pricing, clarify project requirements, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Conduct site visits to assess project conditions, verify quantities, and evaluate installation challenges.
  • Review and manage vendor and subcontractor proposals, ensuring compliance with project standards and budgets.
  • Maintain organized, standardized documentation for all estimates, bids, and change orders to support transparency and auditing.
  • Mentor and coordinate a team of estimators, providing guidance, quality control, and knowledge sharing.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings, value engineering, and efficiency improvements in project delivery.
  • Stay current with the latest trends, codes, and technologies in electrical systems, data center infrastructure, and mission-critical environments.
  • Support strategic decision-making by providing accurate cost data for project feasibility and financial planning.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, & Competencies
  • Extensive knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and low voltage systems.
  • Ability to interpret, analyze, and apply specifications and blueprints accurately.
  • Strong client-facing skills with the ability to communicate complex information effectively.
  • Expertise in estimating projects of varying size and complexity, particularly in mission-critical environments.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate risks, challenges, and cost implications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft or Google Suite applications; familiarity with Accubid or ConEst estimating software is a plus.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis without employer sponsorship.
Education Requirements
  • 8–10 years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma, or
  • 6–8 years of experience with an Associate degree, or
  • 2–4 years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree.
Preferred but not required
  • Hands-on construction experience in mission-critical or data center projects.
  • Proven experience managing and mentoring estimator teams.
  • Strong familiarity with modern estimating software and data center construction methodologies.
Abilities
  • Comfortable with extended periods of computer work and sitting.
  • Manual dexterity for keyboard and data entry tasks.
  • Excellent listening, reading, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to apply logical reasoning to complex project problems.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
