Job summary

Project Talent Partners seeks an experienced Electrical Estimator to own the preconstruction and estimating process for electrical construction projects in the U.S. Northeast region.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in electrical construction estimating.
  • Strong electrical contracting industry background.
  • Experience across sectors such as industrial, commercial, mission critical, multifamily, infrastructure, or other complex environments.
  • Experience with Accubid or similar electrical estimating platforms.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with Bluebeam, Primavera, Viewpoint, or similar systems.
  • Working knowledge of electrical codes, building regulations, safety standards, and construction requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Identify scope discrepancies, omissions, conflicts, and risks before bids are submitted.
  • Develop project-specific estimating strategies based on work type, contract requirements, market conditions, and project objectives.
  • Prepare bid qualifications, clarifications, assumptions, exclusions, and scope narratives.
  • Review estimates with senior leadership and assist in establishing final pricing, margins, and bid strategy.
  • Ensure estimates are completed accurately and submitted within deadlines.
  • Obtain competitive pricing from material suppliers, equipment manufacturers, subcontractors, and others.
  • Review quotations to ensure pricing accuracy and full scope.
  • Compare supplier/subcontractor proposals and identify discrepancies.
  • Maintain current pricing information and estimating databases.

Job description

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator to take ownership of the preconstruction and estimating process for a range of electrical construction projects.

The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing project opportunities, analysing drawings and specifications, developing detailed labour and material estimates, obtaining subcontractor and supplier quotations, and producing competitive bids.

Working closely with leadership, operations, project management, and business development, the Senior Estimator will play an important role in assessing project viability, managing commercial risk, and developing accurate pricing strategies.

This position will also provide technical support and guidance to other members of the estimating team, helping to maintain a high standard of accuracy and consistency across all bids.

Core Responsibilities
  • Review invitations to bid and assess projects based on scope, complexity, schedule, resources, and commercial risk.

  • Review quotations to ensure pricing is accurate and that all required scope is included.
  • Compare supplier and subcontractor proposals and identify any discrepancies or gaps.
  • Maintain current pricing information and estimating databases, including labour rates, material costs, productivity factors, taxes, and regional adjustments.
  • Monitor changes in material pricing, labour costs, market conditions, and other factors that may impact project estimates.
  • Use historical project data and market information to improve the accuracy of future estimates.
Labour & Workforce Planning
  • Develop labour estimates based on project scope, installation methods, productivity expectations, and project schedule.
  • Account for applicable union agreements, wage rates, work rules, jurisdictional requirements, and other labour considerations.
  • Apply a strong understanding of electrical field productivity when developing labour budgets.
  • Consider manpower requirements, sequencing, overtime, site conditions, and project-specific constraints when establishing labour costs.
  • Ensure estimates reflect applicable federal, state, and local employment and labour requirements.
Project Transition
  • Participate in the transition of awarded projects from estimating into operations.
  • Lead estimate handoff meetings with Project Managers, Superintendents, and other members of the project team.
  • Communicate key assumptions, exclusions, allowances, labour budgets, procurement requirements, and identified risks.
  • Provide clarification and support to project teams when questions arise regarding the original estimate.
  • Assist with value engineering, scope development, change order pricing, and budget reviews throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support preconstruction teams with constructability reviews, scheduling considerations, procurement planning, and project development.
  • Provide technical direction and day-to-day support to other members of the estimating team.
  • Mentor Junior and Intermediate Estimators, helping develop their technical and commercial estimating abilities.
  • Review estimates and takeoffs prepared by less experienced team members where required.
  • Share knowledge, estimating techniques, and lessons learned across the team.
  • Help develop and improve estimating processes, templates, procedures, and standards.
  • Provide additional estimating support to other offices or project teams when required.
Internal & External Relationships
  • Work closely with Project Management, Operations, Business Development, Engineering, and Preconstruction teams.
  • Attend client meetings, pre-bid conferences, site visits, job walks, and project presentations as required.
  • Build effective working relationships with general contractors, clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and manufacturers.
  • Provide technical and commercial input to support the pursuit of new business opportunities.
  • Maintain clear, professional, and timely communication throughout the estimating process.
Experience & Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical construction estimating.
  • Strong background within the electrical contracting industry.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical construction methods, materials, systems, and installation practices.
  • Experience working across sectors such as industrial, commercial, mission critical, multifamily, infrastructure, or other complex construction environments.
  • Strong understanding of construction schedules, project sequencing, manpower planning, and coordination between trades.
  • Experience with Accubid or similar electrical estimating platforms.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with construction software such as Bluebeam, Primavera, Viewpoint, or similar systems.
  • Working knowledge of relevant electrical codes, building regulations, safety standards, and construction requirements.
