Role Overview
We are working with an established Electrical Contractor in New York City seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator to support its continued project pipeline.
The position will focus on producing accurate and competitive estimates for commercial electrical work across NYC. Projects span corporate interiors, commercial developments, mission-critical facilities, infrastructure improvements, fit-outs, and electrical upgrade programs.
This role would suit an estimator with a strong technical understanding of electrical construction who is comfortable managing the estimating process from initial document review and takeoff through final bid submission and project turnover.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive estimates covering power distribution, lighting, controls, switchgear, feeders, branch wiring, and related electrical systems.
- Analyze plans, specifications, addenda, and tender documents to determine project scope and identify potential cost or scope exposure.
- Produce detailed labor and material takeoffs using appropriate productivity and labor factors.
- Source and evaluate pricing from suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure accurate and complete bid coverage.
- Prepare bid qualifications, clarifications, exclusions, and supporting documentation.
- Identify value-engineering opportunities and assist in developing competitive approaches to each bid.
- Collaborate with senior leadership during bid reviews, pricing discussions, and final submissions.
- Provide comprehensive estimate handovers to project management and operations teams following successful awards.
Background & Experience
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in electrical estimating within the construction industry.
- In-depth understanding of commercial electrical systems, materials, equipment, and installation practices.
- Strong ability to read electrical drawings, specifications, one-line diagrams, and other construction documentation.
- Experience calculating labor, material, equipment, vendor, and subcontractor costs.
- Familiarity with electrical estimating and takeoff platforms; Bluebeam experience is beneficial.
- Strong attention to detail with good analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
