Job summary

CDM Smith in the United States (Fairfax, VA) is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join our power systems team. You will create portions of basic electrical system designs for power, protection and generation, and contribute to studies and calculations to meet project requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Creates portions of basic designs of electric system plans, power system, protection and generation models, facility power systems, sustainability/renewable energy systems, and other similar electrical systems.
  • Contributes to studies of power systems and calculations for electrical systems, lighting simulations, lighting layouts, communications, fire alarm, security, and other similar calculations of basic complexity to meet client project requirements.
  • Assists with the selection and specification of electrical components including motor control centers, switchgears, transformers, etc.
  • Ensures that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs.
  • Performs site reviews and studies, as needed, to ensure designs are aligned with location specifications.
  • Updates design requirements as necessary.
  • Adds to firm's TKM by contributing to technical design documentation of new or special case designs, studies, etc.
  • Assists to create presentation material for conferences.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Job Description

Skills & Abilities

Basic knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices. Basic knowledge of principles of design. Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.). Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work as a team player. Completes assignments on time and demonstrates solid follow through skills.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree. 0 years. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a college degree. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.

Additional Pay Range Information

CDM Smith is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. This pay range is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels for the geographic location assigned to the position. In addition to geographic location, a candidate’s salary is determined by several other factors including, but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, relevant work experience, skills, required certifications, and education/training.

Additional Compensation

All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
