Job description

Electrical Engineering Manager – Microgrids & Power Integration

$170,000–$195,000 + equity

Raleigh, NC | 2–3 days onsite per week

I’m partnering with a fast-growing technology business developing a new distributed power-generation platform for critical data center infrastructure.

The product is moving through final integration, verification and testing ahead of its first commercial deployments. They are now looking for a hands‑on Electrical Engineering Manager to lead the electrical function and take ownership of the complete system architecture.

You will initially manage a team of approximately 4–5 engineers, with the group expected to double in size as the product moves into deployment. Alongside developing the team, you will remain technically involved in the integration of power‑conversion equipment, energy storage, generation assets and switchgear within a multi‑component microgrid.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Leading, developing and mentoring a growing electrical engineering team
  • Supporting recruitment and helping scale the team from 4–5 to approximately 8–10 people
  • Setting technical priorities, allocating resources and ensuring projects are delivered effectively
  • Owning system‑level electrical architecture, requirements and product specifications
  • Establishing power‑distribution, grounding and protection strategies
  • Integrating BESS, power‑conversion equipment, generation assets and switchgear
  • Leading supplier design reviews and overseeing third‑party subsystems
  • Driving hardware development through DFMEA, DVP&R, testing and certification
  • Leading hardware bring‑up, verification, commissioning and root‑cause troubleshooting
  • Representing electrical engineering across mechanical, firmware, software and product teams
What they’re looking for:
  • 8+ years of experience across power electronics, electrical distribution or complex system integration
  • Previous experience leading or managing electrical engineers
  • Strong knowledge of microgrids, BESS, generation assets and power‑conversion systems
  • Experience taking hardware through a formal product‑development lifecycle
  • Knowledge of electrical simulation, modeling and ECAD tools
  • Familiarity with NEC/NFPA 70, UL 1741, UL 9540, UL 2200 or IEEE 1547
  • The ability to operate at the architectural level while remaining hands‑on in a high‑power lab environment
  • Lead and build a growing engineering function rather than inherit a finished organization
  • Join a small startup‑style team with genuine influence, autonomy and visibility
  • Help take a new critical‑power platform from development into commercial deployment
  • Benefit from the stability, resources and route to market of a larger, profitable parent group
  • Participate in an employee share plan and benefit from the long‑term value you help create
  • Support future power and sustainable‑infrastructure technologies across the wider group

This would suit a technical leader who still enjoys solving difficult engineering problems but is also motivated by building teams, developing people and shaping how an engineering organization operates.
