Job description

An innovative robotics company is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineering Manager to join their team in Charlestown, MA, four days per week. This is a full-time opportunity with a company developing next-generation robotic unloaders for industrial and logistics applications. You’ll lead the electrical and firmware engineering efforts behind sophisticated robotic systems, including power distribution, PCBs, sensors, cameras, safety systems, embedded controls, PLCs, and drive systems.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced electrical engineering leader who wants to have a major technical and organizational impact while staying close to the technology. You’ll lead a talented team of electrical and firmware engineers while owning system-level architecture and helping take robotic hardware from concept through production and fleet deployment. You’ll have the opportunity to shape engineering processes, mentor and grow a high-performing team, make critical architectural decisions, and work alongside mechanical, software, product, manufacturing, and deployment teams. For someone who enjoys both leadership and hands-on technical problem solving, this role offers significant ownership, growth, and the opportunity to directly influence the future of an emerging robotics platform.

Required Skills & Experience
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering, with at least 5 years in a technical leadership or engineering management role
  • Proven experience designing and delivering robust electrical systems for robotics, industrial automation, or embedded hardware products
  • Strong knowledge of electrical system architecture, power distribution, PCB design, signal integrity, electrical interfaces, sensors, and actuators
  • Experience with embedded systems and microcontrollers, including I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, and related hardware communication protocols
  • Experience leading or supporting firmware development for hardware bring-up, validation, diagnostics, PLCs, drive systems, safety devices, and embedded systems
  • Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB design/layout tools such as Altium or KiCad
  • Experience managing engineering roadmaps, priorities, technical execution, and project schedules
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, provide constructive feedback, and develop high-performing technical teams
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills with experience collaborating across electrical, mechanical, software, product, manufacturing, and deployment organizations
  • Experience with electrical validation, debugging, test fixtures, DFM/DFT, and design reviews
  • Familiarity with electrical safety, regulatory, and compliance requirements, including UL, CE, IEC, ISO, RIA, and EMI/EMC standards
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose complex electrical and embedded issues in both development and field environments
Desired Skills & Experience
  • Experience scaling electrical or hardware engineering teams within a startup or high-growth environment
  • Background developing robotic systems, industrial automation platforms, autonomous equipment, or other complex electromechanical products
  • Experience taking hardware products from early architecture and prototyping through manufacturing, production, and fleet deployment
  • Experience working directly with contract manufacturers, electrical vendors, component suppliers, and manufacturing partners
  • Familiarity with electrical simulation, power electronics, motor/drive systems, industrial controls, and safety systems
  • Experience developing hardware validation strategies, test plans, automated testing, and production test fixtures
  • Experience supporting field-deployed hardware and diagnosing reliability issues across a fleet
  • Strong understanding of hardware/firmware interfaces and embedded debugging
  • Experience establishing engineering processes, technical standards, and development best practices
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline
