ZEG is continuing to expand its high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) electrical engineering design services and is seeking an Electrical Engineering Manager to help lead and expand this growing team.
This is a hands‑on leadership role for an experienced electrical engineer who can develop people, oversee complex technical work, and drive disciplined project execution. The Electrical Engineering Manager will lead a distributed team of engineers across the US, Canada, and India, with responsibility for technical quality, project delivery, team development, and operational performance.
The role spans detailed electrical design and owner's engineering services for renewable energy, battery energy storage, conventional generation, and large-load facilities, including data centers. Working closely with the Vice President of Electrical Engineering, the Electrical Engineering Manager will help establish the standards, processes, and team capabilities needed to support continued growth.
This is an opportunity to take meaningful ownership of a growing engineering practice, remain engaged in technical work, build a high-performing team, and help shape the company's technical capabilities and reputation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a distributed engineering team expanding technical capabilities with a culture of accountability, collaboration, and quality.
- Establish and improve engineering standards, workflows, design practices, and quality control processes to support consistent, scalable execution.
- Support hiring, onboarding, resource planning, and professional development in alignment with project backlog and business growth.
- Establish clear expectations for technical quality, project ownership, communication, and individual performance.
Technical Leadership & Quality
- Provide hands‑on technical guidance and oversight for electrical engineering design and owner's engineering projects across solar, wind, battery energy storage systems (BESS), conventional generation, and large-load facilities.
- Lead or oversee engineering design activities in areas including:
- Collector substations and utility switchyards, including physical and protection and control (P&C) design.
- Plant‑level power system studies including short‑circuit, cable ampacity, grounding, arc‑flash, protection coordination, and harmonics.
- Plant electrical design for solar PV, BESS, and wind facilities.
- SCADA communications, RTU/RTAC programming, telemetry, and controls troubleshooting.
- Technical investigations and root cause analysis of electrical and plant faults and performance issues during construction, commissioning, and operations.
- Review and approve technical deliverables, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards, client requirements, and internal quality expectations.
- Support professional engineering (PE) licensure across relevant US jurisdictions and coordinate third‑party engineers of record (EORs) where required.
- Help develop technical capabilities and service offerings in response to client needs and evolving market opportunities.
Client Engagement & Development
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with project developers, independent power producers (IPPs), EPC contractors, utilities, and other industry partners.
- Serve as a senior technical point of contact for clients, communicating engineering recommendations, resolving technical issues, and supporting project delivery.
- Support business development through strong execution of existing projects, identification of follow‑on opportunities, and development of long‑term client relationships.
- Contribute to proposals, scopes of work, project estimates, and fee development, balancing technical requirements with commercial considerations.
- Help identify attractive market segments and project opportunities aligned with ZEG's focus on zero‑emission energy, grid infrastructure, and large‑load integration.
Project Execution & Operational Performance
- Maintain accountability for the quality, schedule, scope, and budget of engineering work delivered by the team.
- Monitor project financial performance, resource utilization, workload, and forecasts to support effective staffing and business planning.
- Balance technical rigor with constructability, schedule requirements, project budgets, and client expectations.
