Job summary

Itron, Inc. in Raleigh, NC is seeking an Electrical Engineer Intern to support the lab team on site, developing automation that improves lab efficiency while upholding engineering quality and safety standards.

You will work with senior engineers to debug, test, and automate data collection, write Python-based tools, and review AI-generated code for reliability. This internship blends hands-on experimentation with lightweight software development in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in EE, CE, CS or related degree with at least two years of coursework.
• Ability to program in Python and read/modify code.
• Basic knowledge of software development, modular design, debugging, testing, and documentation.
• Experience using AI coding assistants while reviewing outputs.
• Ability to translate engineering tasks into clear AI requirements and tests.
• Experience organizing, cleaning, calibrating lab equipment.
• Awareness of electrical hazards and safety procedures.
• Available to work ~40 hours per week in Raleigh lab.

Responsibilities

• Identify and debug issues across lab networks and equipment.
• Set up and run tests, verify data quality, analyze results, report.
• Collaborate with senior lab engineers on projects and improvements.
• Support lab maintenance and calibration tracking.
• Develop Python-based automation tools for tests and data processing.
• Review AI-generated code and ensure safety and maintainability.
• Use source control and issue-tracking to document changes.
