Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. seeks an Electrical Engineering Intern in Engineering Services in Wesley Chapel, FL. You will support engineers, test new technology, and develop simulators for protection and automation systems.

As a current student graduating after December 2027, you will work on-site part-time during the school year and full-time in the summer, with a drive to learn and contribute to real-world power infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

• Current student pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent with at least one year of technical coursework completed.
• On-site at Wesley Chapel, FL part‑time during the school year and full‑time in the summer.
• Graduation anticipated December 2027 or later.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to SEL staff & customers.
• Develop and maintain knowledge of SEL processes and technologies.
• Perform testing on new and existing technology.
• Assist engineers with electrical enclosure and test rack creation.
• Develop simulators and perform tests for customer Protection/Automation systems.
• Assist with HMI creation and PLC programming.
• Assist with power system studies and SEL relay settings.
• Research and test new tools and technologies.
• Follow SEL Values and World Class Manufacturing Principles.

As an Electrical Engineering Intern in Engineering Services, you’ll provide solutions and services that help our customers protect and control critical electrical infrastructure and power systems worldwide. Key Responsibilities

• Providing technical support to SEL staff & customers.
• Developing and maintaining knowledge in SEL processes and technologies.
• Performing testing on new and existing technology.
• Assisting engineers with electrical enclosure and test rack creation.
• Developing simulators and performing test for customer Protection/Automation systems.
• Assisting with HMI creation, PLC programming.
• Assisting with Power system studies and SEL relay settings.
• Performing research into and testing on new tools and technologies.
• Follow and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.

• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Are a current student pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent with at least one year of technical coursework completed.
• Are able to work on‑site in Weslley Chapel, FL part‑time during the school year and full‑time in the summer.
• Are a current student graduating in December 2027 or after.
• Experience in programming and script files.
• Practical knowledge of 3‑phase power systems.
• Have working knowledge of emulators and logic analyzers.
• Are able to use MS Windows and serial port terminal emulation software.
• Have strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
• Are able to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.
• Are able to work cooperatively in a team environment.
• Have background check results satisfactory to SEL & negative drug test result(s).

Pay Range Data - $24.25 - $33.00 per hour.

Our intern pay is determined based on the internship role (the work you would be doing) and your year in school (when you plan to graduate).
