The Electrical Engineering Intern position for the City of New York (NYCDOT) is a 20302 appointment within the Traffic Management Center. The intern will rotate shifts, monitor and troubleshoot 13,900 signals, and support incident response citywide under supervision.
The role emphasizes technical problem solving and reporting to management. Preferred candidates hold an accredited electrical engineering degree or related degree with relevant experience and strong MS Office skills.

The NYCDOT seeks an Electrical Engineering Intern to join the Traffic Management Center unit within the Traffic Operations divisions. The unit operates 24/7, including holidays and weekends. The selected candidate will be assigned to a specific shift under general supervision of the TMC shift supervisor and will perform highly technical engineering work, including monitoring and troubleshooting problems related to the maintenance of 13,900 traffic signals, working with maintenance contractors via radio communication to troubleshoot traffic signal failures, restoring proper operations, ensuring traffic flow and public safety, troubleshooting the wireless communication used in conjunction with traffic signals, coordinating with the service provider and their sub‑contractor, checking the status and health of ITS equipment, preparing and providing reports to management and in‑house maintenance shops, and providing technical support. The candidate will also utilize the agency video surveillance system and other vehicle detection technology tools to manage traffic incidents citywide, including monitoring work zones and severe weather conditions, and coordinating responses with first responders and other city and state agencies.
The individuals may work different shifts, nights, weekends and holidays and will report directly to the shift supervisor.

Salary: $59,747.00 – $72,352.00
