Job summary

Waggoner Engineering, Inc. seeks an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our Baton Rouge team. The role supports planning, design, and delivery of electrical, instrumentation, and controls for water and wastewater infrastructure.

Responsibilities include developing electrical designs, construction documents, and performing engineering calculations. The ideal candidate will lead EI&C package development, review power system studies, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to meet

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
• 2–10 years of professional electrical engineering experience.
• Electrical and industrial controls engineering experience within the water/wastewater industry.
• Experience developing EI&C contract drawing packages using AutoCAD.
• Demonstrated experience designing low- and medium-voltage power distribution systems.
• Knowledge of electrical engineering calculations (load, breaker sizing, conductor/conduit sizing, voltage drop, fault current).
• Working knowledge of NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 70E, NFPA 101, and NFPA 820.
• Experience supporting projects during construction (shop drawings, RFIs, field inspections).
• Experience performing, leading, or reviewing electrical power system and arc flash studies.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to independently complete engineering assignments with limited supervision.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan and design low- and medium-voltage distribution systems for water and wastewater facilities.
• Develop electrical construction documents (single-line diagrams, panel schedules, power and lighting plans, control schematics).
• Prepare and review electrical calculations (load, voltage drop, fault current).
• Develop EI&C contract drawing packages and coordinate with other disciplines.
• Lead and interpret power system studies (short-circuit, coordination, arc flash).
• Review P&IDs and process documentation for electrical and control integration.
• Apply NFPA codes and standards.
• Provide technical support during construction (shop drawings, RFIs, field issues).
• Participate in field inspections, start-up and commissioning.
• Coordinate with project managers and stakeholders throughout design and construction.
• Independently manage electrical design for small to medium projects; ensure quality, budget, and schedule.
