Job summary

AMEWAS seeks an Electrical Engineer (RF Engineer)-Journeyman to support Electromagnetic Environmental Effects at Patuxent River, MD. The role involves hands-on testing, data acquisition, and RF system characterization within the Naval Electromagnetic Radiation Facility (NERF).

You will work with MATLAB and LabVIEW to analyze EM effects data, contribute to calibration efforts, and ensure data integrity. This on-site position requires DoD Secret clearance and may include travel per program needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or ABET-accredited equivalent.
  • 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with RF devices and electrical test equipment.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance on onboarding.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Naval Electromagnetic Radiation Facility (NERF) operations at Patuxent River.
  • Set up and maintain electrical sensing equipment for real-time data acquisition.
  • Develop and improve data acquisition methodologies and training documentation.
  • Characterize RF equipment using network analyzers to generate calibration curves.
  • Apply Fourier techniques for data corrections and signal integrity improvements.
  • Utilize MATLAB and LabVIEW for signal analysis of EM effects data.

The Position:

AMEWAS is seeking a highly motivated and talented Electrical Engineer (RF Engineer)-Journeyman to support Electromagnetic Environmental Effects. The salary range of this position is $95,000.00 - $169,000.00 and is commensurate with experience. This position is not eligible for remote work; on-site support is required.

Position Background:

The Integrated Battlespace Simulation and Test (IBST) Department’s E3 facility is the center of excellence in aircraft E3 Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation. Our state-of-the-art laboratories specializes in a variety of capabilities, ranging from box level to complete system level testing. The E3 vision is to be dedicated to improving current and future DoD Test & Evaluation capabilities; in simulation of operational and threat environments, high-energy physics and directed energy weapons by empowering the workforce to approach solutions from outside of the box. With IBST at the helm, we're not just preparing for the future but shaping it.

A typical day as an Electrical Engineer (RF Engineer)-Journeyman may include:
  • Serves as an Electrical Engineer in the Electromagnetic Effects Group, NAVAIRWARCENAC DIV working within the Naval Electromagnetic Radiation Facility (NERF) at Patuxent River Naval Air Station
  • Supports the setup and maintenance of electrical sensing equipment for real-time data acquisition during electromagnetic effects testing (current transducers, oscilloscopes, RF equipment, etc.)
  • Develops and improves existing data acquisition methodology (improving efficiency of calibration or producing detailed documentation for training purposes)
  • Characterizes RF equipment using network analyzers in terms of scattering parameters (S parameters) to produce calibration curves
  • Performs mathematical corrections of data (applying probe correction factors or performing extrapolation using Fourier techniques)
  • Utilizes data control/analysis software environments (MATLAB and LabVIEW) to aid in performing signal analysis of measured electromagnetic effects data
Must-haves:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or an equivalent ABET accredited degree may qualify
  • 3 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience demonstrating engineering and scientific practices to ensure the validity and accuracy of test results
  • Experience performing detailed analysis of complex data to identify problems and recommend solutions
  • Experience applying a wide range of theories, concepts, principles, and procedures related to signal analysis
  • The ability to articulate and convey complex topics to personnel with less technical expertise
  • Experience utilizing RF devices (coaxial cables, 50‑ohm connectors, attenuators, etc.)
  • Experience utilizing electrical test equipment (signal generators, oscilloscopes, and network analyzers)
  • Willingness to travel up to twice a year for up to two weeks at a time if a remote test event is scheduled
  • Willingness to work overtime when required by test schedule
  • Willingness to work in an indoor and outdoor environments
  • Minimum clearance required to apply (candidates who do not currently hold the required clearance will not be considered): N/A
  • Current clearance required upon onboarding: DoD Secret Clearance
  • Additional Accesses: The ability to obtain and maintain the DoD security clearance eligibility and/or additional security access requirements necessary to perform the duties of the position, as required by the contract. U.S. Citizenship is required for all clearances.
Desired Skills:
  • Familiarity with Naval Electromagnetic Radiation Facility (NERF) testing
  • Experience with RF systems (radars, magnetrons, etc.)
  • Experience working around aircrafts

Physical Environment and Working Conditions: The physical environment for this position requires the employee to support various labs at PAX River. The physical environment also requires the employee to work in an office, sitting in a cubicle or at a desk, looking at a computer for part of the day.

The employee may be required to travel short distances to offices/conference rooms and buildings on site or near the work site. Overnight travel will be required.

The employee is required to stand, walk and/or move throughout the workday, often bending over and lifting items up to approximately 50 lbs. Operation of machinery to assist in the movement of heavy objects, such as forklifts and dollies, may be required. This position may also require driving government vehicles.
