Job summary
AMEWAS is seeking a Network and Computer Systems Administrator (JSE)-Journeyman in Patuxent River, MD. The role focuses on installing, configuring, and maintaining LANs, servers, and security controls in a DoD environment.
On-site work is required with substantial responsibilities for system monitoring, backups, and access control. The ideal candidate holds DoD Top Secret clearance, 3+ years of related experience, and certifications such as CCNP/CCSP or equivalent.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent with 5 years total experience (per options)
- Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience
- Certifications: CCNP/CCSP or SecurityX/FITSP-O/GFACT/GSEC/RHEL
- Experience with multicast routing using Brocade or Ruckus equipment
- Experience with VPNs and VLANs
- Experience with COMSEC/TACLANE installation and configuration
- Experience with configuring security tools (ACAS) and STIGs
- Experience with Linux versions 7–10 and RHEL/SUSE/Ubuntu
- VMware experience and Windows Server experience
- DoD Top Secret Clearance plus eligibility for access
Responsibilities

- Performs system monitoring and verifies hardware, network and server resources
- Reviews system and application logs; verifies backups
- Analyzes network/server resource usage and manages user access
- Installs/upgrades software and maintains licenses
- Assists in network emulation/virtualization and coordination between network hardware/software
- Configures Brocade and Ruckus devices
- Sets up routing tables and multicast groups across subnets
- Supports VPNs and VLAN configurations
- Maintains COMSEC/TACLANE installations and security posture
- Uses Ansible for automation; applies ACAS and STIGs guidance

AMEWAS is seeking a highly motivated and talented Network and Computer Systems Administrator (JSE)-Journeyman. The salary range of this position is $90,000.00 - $150,000.00 and is commensurate with experience. This position is not eligible for remote work; on-site support is required.

- Installs, configures and maintains an organization's local area network (LAN), data communications network, operating systems and physical/virtual servers
- Performs system monitoring
- Verifies the integrity/availability of hardware, network and server resources/systems
- Reviews system and application logs
- Verifies completion of scheduled jobs and system backups
- Analyzes network and server resource consumption and controls user access
- Installs/Upgrades software and maintains software licenses
- Assists in network emulation/virtualization, analysis, planning and coordination between network and data communications hardware and software
- Configures Brocade and Ruckus networking devices
- Sets up routing tables and groups to support fast and efficient network traffic across multiple network segments and subnets using multicast and IGMP protocols
- Bachelor’s Degree OR Associate’s Degree with 2 years of additional work experience (5 years total) OR HS Diploma/Equivalent with 4 years of additional work experience (7 years total) OR Relevant Technical Certification with 4 years of additional work experience (7 years total) OR meets CSWF training requirements OR meets the CSWF certification requirements (CSWF Qualifications: https://www.cool.osd.mil/usn/cswf/matrix.html?moc=cswf_sa_451)
- 3 years of relevant work experience
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) OR Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP) OR Security CompTIA SecurityX (formerly CASP+) OR Federal IT Security Professional-Operator-NG (FITSP-O) OR GIAC Foundational Cybersecurity Technologies (GFACT) OR GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC) OR RHEL certification
- The ability to troubleshoot and support the full network environment, not limited to switch-level issues
- Experience with multicast routing using Brocade OR Ruckus equipment
- Experience with COMSEC/TACLANE installation and configuration
- Experience with configuring VPNs and VLANs
- Experience with Ansible
- Experience with ACAS (Automated Cybersecurity Assessment System)
- Familiarity with STIGs (Security Technical Implementation Guides)
- Experience with Linux versions 7–10
- Familiarity with RHEL, SUSE and Ubuntu distributions
- VMware experience
- Strong attention to detail
- Minimum clearance required to apply (candidates who do not currently hold the required clearance will not be considered): DoD Top Secret Clearance
- Additional Accesses: The ability to obtain and maintain the DoD security clearance eligibility and/or additional security access requirements necessary to perform the duties of the position, as required by the contract
- Experience with Windows Server 2022/2025 and/or Active Directory (AD)
- Experience with AWS GovCloud and/or Microsoft Azure
- Experience with PowerShell, Python, Ansible and/or Terraform
- Experience with PDQ Deploy
- Experience with VxRail
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain all security clearances, interim security determinations, and/or other access authorizations required by the applicable contract(s). The physical environment for this position requires the employee to support various labs at PAX River. The physical environment also requires the employee to work in an office, sitting in a cubicle or at a desk, looking at a computer for part of the day.
The employee may be required to travel short distances to offices/conference rooms and buildings on site or near the work site. On rare occasions, overnight travel may be required.
