Job summary

AMEWAS seeks an Engineering Technician (EMC)-Junior to support electromagnetic environmental effects testing for Naval systems. The role emphasizes EMI/EMC testing, use of spectrum analyzers and oscilloscopes, and adherence to MIL-STD-461. On-site work is required with no remote option.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as an Engineering Technician (EMC) in the EMC team within E3.
  • Verifies EMI/EMC compliance of products and systems.
  • Performs EMI/EMC tests on aerospace systems and components.
  • Uses spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and related gear.
  • Conducts pre-test inspections and collaborates with engineers.
  • Generates test plans, procedures, and reports per MIL-STD-461.
  • Ensures SUT is operational with customers and defines failure criteria.
  • Keeps test equipment calibration and documentation up to date.
  • Performs setup/calibration measurements and records deviations.

The Position:

AMEWAS is seeking a highly motivated and talented Engineering Technician (EMC)-Junior to support Electromagnetic Environmental Effects. The hourly range of this position is $23.00 - $37.00/hour and is commensurate with experience. This position is not eligible for remote work; on-site support is required.

Position Background:

The Integrated Battlespace Simulation and Test (IBST) Department’s E3 facility is the center of excellence in aircraft E3 Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation. Our state-of-the-art laboratories specializes in a variety of capabilities, ranging from box level to complete system level testing. The E3 vision is to be dedicated to improving current and future DoD Test & Evaluation capabilities; in simulation of operational and threat environments, high-energy physics and directed energy weapons by empowering the workforce to approach solutions from outside of the box. With IBST at the helm, we're not just preparing for the future but shaping it.

A typical day as an Engineering Technician (EMC)-Junior may include:
  • Serves as an Engineering Technician (EMC) in the Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3), NAVAIRWARCENAC DIV, Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT&E) group supporting the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) team
  • Verifies compliance of products and systems with electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards
  • Performs EMI/EMC testing on aerospace systems and components
  • Utilizes a range of test equipment (spectrum analyzers, signal generators, oscilloscopes, etc.)
  • Conducts pre-test inspections
  • Collaborates with engineers to identify and troubleshoot issues
  • Generates comprehensive test plans, procedures, and reports in adherence to industry standards (MIL-STD-461)
  • Works with customers to verify that the SUT is operational
  • Defines failure criteria
  • Verifies that the detection system test equipment is in calibration/operating correctly
  • Performs setup and calibration measurements per the applicable standard
  • Executes tests and points out deviations resulting from equipment malfunction or observational errors
  • Develops test documentation (plans, procedures, reports, etc.)
Must-haves:
  • HS Diploma or equivalent with technical school or military training in troubleshooting/testing electronic equipment may qualify
  • 1 year of experience conducting electronics test and maintenance
  • Knowledge of electronic test equipment (spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, receivers, antennas, amplifiers, multi-meters, etc.)
  • Experience reading and understanding schematics and technical manuals
  • The ability to create, read, and understand test plans
  • Experience working around aircraft and avionics
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC principals
  • Proficiency in Windows OS and Microsoft Office (Excel/Word/Outlook/PowerPoint)
  • Minimum clearance required to apply (candidates who do not currently hold the required clearance will not be considered): N/A
  • Current clearance required upon onboarding: DoD Secret Clearance
  • Additional Accesses: The ability to obtain and maintain the DoD security clearance eligibility and/or additional security access requirements necessary to perform the duties of the position, as required by the contract. U.S. Citizenship is required for all clearances.
Desired Skills:
  • Experience working with RF (radio frequency) principles
  • Familiarity with software tools used in EMI/EMC testing
  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-461, IEEE-299, and/or RTCA/DO-160 test standards
  • Experience with EMI/EMC tests
  • Experience supporting Special Access Program (SAP) efforts

Physical Environment and Working Conditions:

The physical environment for this position requires the employee to support various labs on NAS Pax River . The physical environment also requires the employee to work in an office, sitting in a cubicle or at a desk, looking at a computer for part of the day.

The employee may be required to travel short distances to offices/conference rooms and buildings on site or near the work site. Overnight travel will be required.

The employee is required to stand, walk and/or move throughout the workday, often bending over and lifting items up to approximately 50 lbs. This position may also require driving government vehicles.
