Job description

Build where superconductors, cryogenics, and megawatts meet

Spinor Energy's mission is to accelerate the global transition to renewable energy with breakthrough technology.

We’re building the real-life flux capacitor: Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES), a battery that stores electricity in the magnetic field of a superconducting coil instead of through chemical reactions. It never degrades, discharges megawatts in milliseconds, and is the most efficient form of energy storage ever conceived.

Our engineering spans four disciplines at once: fusion-grade superconducting tape, megawatt-scale high-voltage power electronics, cryogenics, and vacuum systems. At Spinor, you'll get your hands on all of them.

Our founders came from SpaceX, where they designed Starlink solar arrays and helped scale production to 70 satellites per week. We are bringing the same first-principles engineering, rapid iteration, and design-for-scale mindset to energy storage.

You will own consequential hardware architecture and first schematic through bring-up, validation, and field deployment.

The role:

We are hiring Electrical Engineers to own the megawatt-class power electronics at the heart of our SMES system.

You will:

  • Architect bidirectional, grid-facing MW-class power-conversion systems

  • Evaluate converter topologies and select switching devices, magnetics, capacitors, sensors, and protection components

  • Design high-voltage power stages, gate drives, sensing, controls interfaces, grounding, and supporting electronics

  • Develop fast fault detection, quench protection, interlocks, safe-state behavior, and supervisory control

  • Build electrical test infrastructure and instrumentation

  • Lead board and system bring-up, debugging, characterization, and design iteration

  • Integrate across magnet, cryogenic, vacuum, mechanical, firmware, and controls engineering

  • Take systems from a blank schematic to reliable operation in the field

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, another relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent practical experience

  • 2+ years of hands‑on experience (including internships or co‑ops) designing, analyzing, building, testing, or manufacturing electrical or electromechanical hardware

Preferred Qualifications:

You have shipped consequential electrical hardware end to end. You have taken a design through schematic, layout, bring‑up, debugging, validation, and operation in a real environment.

You bring several of the following:

  • Experience designing or commissioning high‑voltage, high‑current, or high‑power systems

  • Expertise in power semiconductors, gate drives, magnetics, sensing, controls, or protection

  • The ability to reason across electrical, thermal, mechanical, firmware, and controls boundaries

  • A record of turning incomplete requirements and ambiguous problems into working hardware

  • The desire to remain hands‑on while owning system‑level technical decisions

Relevant experience may include SiC or GaN converters, grid‑tied inverters, UPS or battery systems, pulse power, magnet power supplies, motor drives, superconducting magnets, fusion systems, accelerators, cryogenics, or other high‑energy hardware.

We do not expect one person to have worked in every one of these areas. We care most about technical depth, learning velocity, and evidence that you can build and ship.
