Job summary

MEA Energy in Michigan is seeking an Electrical Engineer focused on power systems to support a major new data center construction project in Southeast Michigan. You will provide technical engineering support to senior engineers and project managers, with potential to lead design-build or design-assist scopes as your background allows.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of electrical engineering experience in commercial, industrial, or data-center environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC, NFPA, and IEEE standards.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt quickly.
  • Strong communication with internal teams, suppliers, clients, and field personnel.
  • Self-motivated and team player.

Responsibilities

  • Design power distribution systems including cable sizing, single-line diagrams, feeder calculations, and equipment layouts.
  • Perform value engineering and field surveys of existing conditions.
  • Coordinate design with project specs and equipment procurement.
  • Review and process equipment submittals and drawings.
  • Write specifications and manage RFIs.
  • Coordinate with architecture, structural, mechanical, and plumbing trades.
  • Design and check power, lighting, and auxiliary systems.
  • Produce layout drawings and as-built documentation.
  • Interface with clients, architects, and other engineering partners.
  • Attend design meetings and keep designs aligned with budget and constructability.

Job description

We are hiring an Electrical Engineer focused on power systems to support a major new data center construction project in Southeast Michigan.

You will provide technical engineering support to senior engineers and project managers. Depending on your background, you may take the lead on design-build or design-assist scopes. The role centers on delivering accurate, constructible designs that meet project requirements, codes, and practical field conditions.

What you will do

  • Design power distribution systems including cable/conduit sizing, single-line diagrams, feeder calculations, overcurrent protection, and equipment layouts
  • Perform value engineering reviews and conduct field surveys of existing electrical conditions
  • Coordinate design with project specs and equipment procurement
  • Review and process equipment submittals, drawings, and documentation
  • Write specifications and manage RFIs
  • Coordinate with architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing, and other trades for fully coordinated designs
  • Design and check power, lighting, and auxiliary systems
  • Resolve drawing conflicts and interferences
  • Work with field teams and project managers to keep designs aligned with budget and constructability
  • Attend design meetings and interface with clients, architects, and other engineering partners
  • Produce layout drawings, details, and as-built documentation

What you need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years of electrical engineering experience in commercial, industrial, or plant environments (data center experience strongly preferred)
  • Solid working knowledge of NEC, NFPA, and IEEE standards
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt quickly
  • Strong communication skills for working with internal teams, suppliers, clients, and field personnel
  • Self-motivated and effective in a team setting

Nice to have

  • EPC or site construction experience
  • Revit or AutoCAD experience

Compensation & benefits

  • Overtime (typically 5–10 hours per week)
  • 10% annual performance bonus
  • 80 hours PTO in year 1 (flexible up to 3 weeks if requested)
  • 104 hours years 2–4 | 144 hours year 5+
