Job summary

Americaatwork is partnering with a respected engineering firm to recruit a Licensed Professional Electrical Engineer (PE) for refinery and oil & gas projects in the Pacific Northwest.

This hybrid role requires leadership of electrical design from concept through commissioning, with three on-site days in Ferndale, WA and two remote days. You will tackle power distribution, hazardous areas, and system studies using ETAP/SKM.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • 8–10+ years of electrical engineering experience in oil & gas, refining, chemical processing, or heavy industrial facilities.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Experience with power distribution, hazardous area design, ETAP/SKM analysis, electrical system design, and refinery engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical systems for refinery and industrial facilities.
  • Develop one-line diagrams, wiring schematics, and electrical construction packages.
  • Perform load calculations, voltage drop calculations, cable sizing, conduit sizing, grounding design, lighting calculations.
  • Perform power system studies including Arc Flash Analysis, Short Circuit Studies, Protective Device Coordination.
  • Prepare electrical equipment specifications and review vendor Submittals.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and support commissioning and startup activities.

Are you an experienced Electrical Engineer with a passion for solving complex industrial challenges? Our client is seeking a Licensed Professional Electrical Engineer (PE) to join their growing engineering team supporting major refinery and oil & gas projects in the Pacific Northwest.

This hybrid opportunity offers the flexibility of working three days onsite in Ferndale, WA (Tuesday–Thursday) and two days remotely (Monday & Friday) while contributing to innovative capital projects for industry-leading clients.

As an Electrical Engineer, you'll lead and support electrical engineering design for refinery and industrial facility projects from concept through commissioning.

Responsibilities
  • Design electrical systems for refinery and industrial facilities
  • Develop one‑line diagrams, wiring schematics, and electrical construction packages
  • Perform load calculations, voltage drop calculations, cable sizing, conduit sizing, grounding design, lighting calculations
  • Perform power system studies including:
    • Arc Flash Analysis
    • Short Circuit Studies
    • Protective Device Coordination
    • Utilize ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower software
  • Prepare electrical equipment specifications
  • Develop scopes of work and technical documentation
  • Prepare material requisitions and review vendor submittals
  • Evaluate electrical equipment and recommend technical solutions
  • Respond to RFIs during construction
  • Support commissioning, startup, and refinery turnaround activities
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Maintain project budgets and schedules
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, IEEE, API, NFPA 70E, NFPA 497
  • Participate in client meetings and provide engineering leadership throughout project execution
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
Experience
  • 8–10+ years of electrical engineering experience
  • Experience within:
    • Oil & Gas

    • Chemical Processing
    • Heavy Industrial Facilities
License
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License Required
