Job summary

America At Work represents a client seeking a Licensed Professional Electrical Engineer to lead electrical design for refinery and industrial facilities in the Pacific Northwest. The hybrid role combines three onsite days in Ferndale, WA and two remote days while delivering capital projects for major clients.

Ideal candidates bring 8–10+ years of experience, PE license, and expertise in power distribution, hazardous areas, ETAP/SKM, and refinery engineering. Must adhere to NEC/IEEE/API standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 8–10+ years of electrical engineering experience in oil & gas, refining, petrochemical or heavy industrial facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical design for refinery and industrial facilities from concept to commissioning.
  • Develop one-line diagrams, wiring schematics, and construction packages.
  • Perform load, voltage drop, conduit sizing, grounding, and lighting calculations; power-system studies (Arc Flash, Short Circuit).
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and review vendor submittals.
  • Support commissioning, startup, and refinery turnaround activities.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, IEEE, API, NFPA 70E, NFPA 497.

Are you an experienced Electrical Engineer with a passion for solving complex industrial challenges? Our client is seeking aLicensed Professional Electrical Engineer (PE) to join their growing engineering team supporting major refinery and oil & gas projects in the Pacific Northwest.

This hybrid opportunity offers the flexibility of working three days onsite in Ferndale, WA (Tuesday–Thursday) and two days remotely (Monday & Friday) while contributing to innovative capital projects for industry‑leading clients.

What You'll Do

As an Electrical Engineer, you'll lead and support electrical engineering design for refinery and industrial facility projects from concept through commissioning.

Responsibilities include:
  • Design electrical systems for refinery and industrial facilities
  • Develop one‑line diagrams, wiring schematics, and electrical construction packages
  • Perform:
    • Load calculations
    • Voltage drop calculations
    • Cable sizing
    • Conduit sizing
    • Grounding design
    • Lighting calculations
  • Perform power system studies including:
    • Arc Flash Analysis
    • Short Circuit Studies
    • Protective Device Coordination
  • Utilize ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower software
  • Prepare electrical equipment specifications
  • Develop scopes of work and technical documentation
  • Prepare material requisitions and review vendor submittals
  • Evaluate electrical equipment and recommend technical solutions
  • Respond to RFIs during construction
  • Support commissioning, startup, and refinery turnaround activities
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Maintain project budgets and schedules
  • Ensure compliance with:
    • NEC
    • IEEE
    • API
    • NFPA 70E
    • NFPA 497
  • Participate in client meetings and provide engineering leadership throughout project execution
Required Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
Experience
  • 8–10+ years of electrical engineering experience
  • Experience within:
    • Oil & Gas
    • Refining
    • Petrochemical
    • Chemical Processing
    • Heavy Industrial Facilities
License
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License Required
