Job description

Job Overview

The Electrical Engineer — PE will provide technical leadership and hands-on engineering support for industrial and manufacturing electrical projects from initial design and preconstruction through construction, commissioning, and project completion.

The ideal candidate is a Professional Engineer (PE) with strong industrial or manufacturing electrical engineering experience, particularly in design-build environments. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, project management, client interaction, and engineering leadership. The successful candidate will be comfortable working directly with clients, General Contractors (GCs), construction teams, and internal engineering staff while remaining actively involved in project execution.

This position will also provide leadership and technical direction to an engineering organization of approximately 20 professionals while maintaining responsibility for multiple concurrent projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead electrical engineering design and project execution for industrial, manufacturing, and facility-related projects.
  • Manage electrical engineering activities from design and preconstruction through construction, commissioning, and project completion.
  • Develop and review electrical designs involving power distribution, controls, low-voltage systems, electrical infrastructure, manufacturing equipment, and facility systems.
  • Provide technical engineering support for manufacturing facilities, industrial environments, equipment installations, and infrastructure projects.
  • Collaborate with General Contractors, construction teams, architects, engineers, equipment vendors, and other project stakeholders in a design-build environment.
  • Participate in project planning, design reviews, preconstruction meetings, construction coordination, and project closeout.
  • Oversee approximately 4–5 active projects simultaneously , with responsibility for approximately 10–15 projects annually, depending on project scope and complexity.
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to an engineering team of approximately 20 professionals.
  • Review engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, equipment requirements, and technical documentation for accuracy and compliance.
  • Identify engineering risks, constructability concerns, design conflicts, and potential project issues and develop appropriate solutions.
  • Participate in client, Teams, contractor, and project meetings to communicate technical requirements, project status, design decisions, and solutions.
  • Work directly with clients to understand project requirements and develop practical, cost-effective electrical solutions.
  • Coordinate with project managers and construction personnel to ensure designs are properly implemented in the field.
  • Conduct occasional jobsite visits and walk active construction sites to evaluate installation progress, resolve field issues, and verify alignment with design requirements.
  • Support estimating, budgeting, scheduling, and project planning activities during preconstruction.
  • Assist with evaluating change orders, RFIs, submittals, and other construction-related technical documentation.
  • Ensure electrical designs comply with applicable codes, standards, safety requirements, and project specifications.
  • Maintain a hands-on role in technical problem-solving and engineering decision-making rather than functioning solely as an executive-level manager.
  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, project delivery, design quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Perform other engineering and leadership responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.
  • Candidates who are approximately 1–2 months away from obtaining their PE license may also be considered.
  • Significant experience in industrial, manufacturing, or facility electrical engineering.
  • Strong experience working in design-build environments, preferably alongside General Contractors and construction teams.
  • Demonstrated experience designing electrical systems for industrial and manufacturing applications.
  • Strong knowledge of power distribution, electrical controls, low-voltage systems, electrical infrastructure, manufacturing equipment, and facility electrical systems.
  • Experience taking projects through the complete lifecycle, including design, preconstruction, construction, commissioning, and completion.
  • Demonstrated engineering leadership experience, including the ability to oversee and mentor an engineering team of approximately 20 people.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and competing priorities.
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, construction processes, codes, standards, and industry practices.
  • Experience reviewing electrical drawings, specifications, calculations, equipment requirements, and construction documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to address technical and field-related challenges.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable participating in client, project, contractor, and virtual Teams meetings.
  • Willingness and ability to occasionally visit and walk active construction jobsites.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to work effectively with engineers, clients, contractors, and construction personnel.
  • Ability to remain technically hands-on while providing leadership and direction to an engineering team.
Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate combines deep industrial/manufacturing electrical engineering expertise with strong project and people leadership. They should be a practicing engineer who remains involved in technical design and problem-solving rather than transitioning entirely into an executive management role.

The candidate should be comfortable managing several projects simultaneously, working directly with clients and construction teams, making field decisions, and guiding a sizable engineering group. Strong design-build experience and the ability to take ownership of projects from preconstruction through completion are particularly important.
