Job summary

HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division is seeking a nuclear engineering professional to design, test and oversee electrical components and propulsion systems on CVN, VCS and CLB programs. This hands-on waterfront role supports reactor and propulsion plant systems on the 2nd shift.

The candidate will mentor engineers, perform onsite inspections, resolve technical issues, and draft procedures while coordinating with trades and government representatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 5 years of relevant exempt experience with a Bachelor's degree.
• Master’s Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience.
• Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.
• Effective written and verbal communication; problem solving; critical thinking; technical writing.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Programs and various NNS shipbuilding programs (DDMS, SAP, i2).

Responsibilities

• Mentor and train level 1 and 2 engineers and lead teams of personnel with varying backgrounds.
• Perform onsite inspections of construction issues to support resolving Technical Work Documents (eIRs, ERs).
• Support material issue resolution through answering QNs, VIRs, VQs.
• Develop, review and approve technical work instructions/procedures (SCNIs, SCNPs, CCPIs, CCPPs).
• Maintain and approve work instructions and troubleshooting paperwork.
• Collaborate with peer engineers, construction management and craftsmen daily.
• Support production meetings to provide engineering insight on construction issues.
• Experience with CVN and/or VCS Rx I&C and other propulsion plant electrical systems is preferred.
