Job summary
HII Newport News Shipbuilding seeks an Engineering Technician 4 (Electrical) to support propulsion plant operations on Nimitz-class carriers. You will gather data, produce documentation, perform analyses, and aid in evaluations for MCRs and SPM revisions. Requires A.S.
degree and NNPS/NNS credentials, plus hands-on shipboard electrical experience. The role is full-time, on-site in Newport News with 10–25% travel.
Qualifications
- Associate's Degree and 6 years of relevant experience.
- NNS Apprentice School graduate.
- Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate.
- High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience.
- High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience.
Responsibilities
- Research: investigate modernization and repair impact on propulsion plants for Nimitz Class carriers.
- Gather/review related technical documentation.
- Coordinating with engineering codes at NNS, NNSY, and PSNS.
- Performing shipchecks as necessary.
- Evaluate the validity of in-coming MCRs to the CVN68 Class Steam Plant Manual.
- Review SPM chapters and operating instructions to identify improvements.
- Product Development: generate MCR technical change packages for safe propulsion plant operations.
- SPM Revisions: work with drafting and IETM teams to develop revisions.
