Job summary

kW Mission Critical Engineering, a WSP company, is seeking an Electrical Engineer for its Herndon, VA office. You will design complex electrical systems for data centers and mission critical environments, including generator plants, medium voltage distribution, and essential infrastructure.

The role requires collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams, mentoring of junior engineers, and leadership in complex projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with electrical building systems emphasis.
• 3+ years of experience designing electrical systems for high performing/commercial/industrial or mission critical/data center buildings.
• Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, SKM, eTap or Cyme.
• Knowledge of building, electrical and energy codes.
• Ability to present design information to project staff.
• Detail-oriented and self-starter.
• Ability to travel to project sites.

Responsibilities

• Design electrical systems for buildings including lighting, receptacle, essential, and critical infrastructure.
• Plan and execute engineering tasks within projects.
• Lead electrical design of complex projects.
• Develop drawings and specifications for architects, contractors and owners.
• Attend client meetings and contribute to discussions.
• Lead and mentor entry-level and junior engineers.
• Coordinate with internal teams, vendors, and manufacturers.
• Communicate complex concepts to clients and stakeholders.
• Develop equipment room layouts, floor plans, and one-lines.
• Perform short circuit, coordination, and arc flash calculations.
• Support construction administration and site surveys.
