Applicants must have Hawaiʻi journey-level license and four years of journeyman experience, plus a valid Hawaii driver’s license. The job includes reviewing permit applications, issuing notices, and assisting with electrical fire
Inspects and tests electrical installations and equipment in buildings and structures of limited size and scope for compliance with plans and specifications, electrical codes and other pertinent ordinances and accepted safety standards; and performs other related duties as required.

This Assistant Electrical Inspector, SR-16 position is a career ladder position. The next level in the series is Electrical Inspector, SR-19, $4,933/month. Persons hired into career ladder positions must meet minimum qualifications for the next level in the career ladder series, perform work at the higher level, and meet performance requirements to move to the next level in the career ladder series.
The eligible list may be used for other permanent and temporary vacancies as they arise during the life of the list. Temporary appointment may lead to conversion to permanent appointment.

The electrical codes of the County of Hawai'i and National Electrical Codes; the National Electrical Codes; building and safety codes and other pertinent ordinances pertaining to electrical installations; the standard practices, methods, processes, materials, and tools of the electrical trade and their application to electrical wiring and equipment installations on residential, commercial, and industrial premises; the basic principles of electrical installations as they apply to electrical appliances and wiring installations; operation and maintenance of standard office machines, computers, tablets, cell phones, and other mobile devices; and Electrical Contracting and Electricians trade licensing laws.
Inspect electrical installations and equipment and render decisions in conformity with ordinances and codes; recognize hazardous situations and determine means of correction; read and interpret plans and specifications, electrical codes and pertinent ordinances and apply them to the general public; maintain records and prepare reports; compute and determine capacity for any required service entrance equipment and number of circuits based on given load; operate and maintain standard office machines and equipment, including electronic computer equipment, peripherals and mobile devices; operate and maintain County issued vehicles and equipment; offer assistance to clerical staff in answering phones and assisting the public at the counter; and deal tactfully with electrical contractors, workmen, owners, and the general public.
