Job summary

Jobtailor in Torrance, CA is seeking an experienced hardware engineer to design, prototype, and test embedded electronics for rugged environments powering AI-enabled platforms and environmental instrumentation.

You will lead design from requirements through validation and documentation, integrate processors and FPGAs, collaborate across engineering disciplines, and work with suppliers to ensure manufacturability and reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 2-3 years of experience in complex board design, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Experience in product development with outsource design partners.
• Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB layout tools (Altium, KiCAD).
• Experience with embedded microcontrollers, sensors, power systems and interface protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN).
• Strong lab test methods and tools (oscilloscopes, signal generators, logic analyzers).
• Effective communication and ability to work independently and in a team.
• Background in automotive, EV, AV, aerospace, or space industries.
• Familiarity with guidance and navigation technologies or inertial sensors.
• Experience with optics and multispectral imaging systems.
• MIL-STD or DO-160 EMC design and test experience.
• Knowledge of programmable logic design, or signal/power integrity design.
• Low-level firmware experience, bring-up and testing.
• Familiarity with EMI/EMC, thermal constraints, rugged hardware design.
• Must meet ITAR requirements: U.S. citizen or eligible to obtain required authorizations.

Responsibilities

• Design, prototype, and test circuit boards, sensor interfaces, and embedded system electronics
• Lead assigned tasks from requirements through validation and documentation
• Integrate embedded processors, FPGAs, and AI modules into low-power, compact form factors
• Collaborate with mechanical, software, and systems engineers to meet overall system requirements
• Interface with suppliers and manufacturers on component selection, prototyping, and manufacturability
• Develop and run test procedures for functional validation, EMI compliance, thermal performance, and reliability
• Troubleshoot using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and similar tools
• Create and maintain schematics, PCB layouts, BOMs, and design documentation according to IPC, MIL-STD, and ISO standards
• Support hardware integration, testing, and debugging during lab evaluations and field deployments, including customer demonstrations
• Design and develop advanced electronics systems for AI-powered platforms and environmental instrumentation serving military and commercial applications
