Job description

Starkey is hiring an Electrical Engineer II – Continuation Engineering at its global headquarters in Eden Prairie, MN. This role, under general supervision, is responsible for supporting Continuation Engineering (CE) activities for released products. The Electrical Engineer II executes Continuation Engineering Requests (CERs) focused on quality improvement, cost reduction, supply continuity, and manufacturing support. This role provides technical support to manufacturing and field performance issues while ensuring alignment with R&D for any changes impacting product specifications.

Job Responsibilities
  • Execute Continuation Engineering Requests (CERs) – Electrical/EA Scope
    • Lead or support the execution of CERs involving electrical and electro‑acoustic changes to released products.
    • Collaborate with R&D for specification‑impacting changes, ensuring proper design control and approval are followed.
    • Interpret and apply U.S. and international hearing aid standards to sustaining engineering activities.
    • Define or update electrical and acoustic requirements for components and products as needed for CE changes.
  • Design and Verification of Electrical Changes
    • Collaborate on electrical design updates including schematics, PCBs, and PCBAs for released products.
    • Collaborate on acoustic design updates involving transducers, pathways, and performance parameters.
    • Characterize and verify acoustic and electrical performance of modified designs against product requirements.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve technical performance issues discovered during CE execution or production.
    • Support transfer of engineering changes into production and validate manufacturing readiness.
  • Supply Chain and Cost Engineering
    • Evaluate alternate component sources and qualify electrical/acoustic replacements to ensure supply continuity.
    • Perform component‑level analysis and testing to validate equivalence against original specifications.
    • Support cost reduction initiatives through analysis of BOM alternatives and process improvements.
  • Documentation and Regulatory Support
    • Create and maintain accurate engineering change documentation, ECOs, and production release packages.
    • Provide regulatory documentation for domestic and international agencies as required by CE changes.
    • Provide samples and test reports for homologation submissions related to engineering changes.
    • Submit patent disclosures where applicable.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration
    • Act as the technical interface between CE and other departments including Quality, Supply Chain, Operations, and R&D.
    • Represent CE Electrical Engineering in project and change review meetings.
    • Present design change concepts and verification results in design reviews.
    • Provide direction and guidance to support engineers on the CE team.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education, Certification and Experience Requirements

  • Education
    • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field; OR
    • Master of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience
    • (With BS): Minimum two years of experience in hearing aid design or product development environment.
    • (With MS): Minimum one year of experience in hearing aid design or product development environment.
    • Considerations given for: engineering internship in industry; audiology or acoustic coursework; audio engineering experience; education or training in music acoustics.
  • Knowledge / Technical Requirements
    • Proficiency with schematic and layout CAD packages.
    • Proficiency with circuit simulation tools.
    • Proficiency with printed circuit board analysis software and tools.
    • Intermediate working knowledge of DSP technology.
    • Intermediate working knowledge of analog‑to‑digital and digital‑to‑analog circuits.
    • Intermediate knowledge of acoustics and hearing aid design.
    • Intermediate knowledge of product development best practices (DFM, DOE, DFMEA, Lean PD, EMC, etc.).
  • Competencies, Skills & Abilities
    • Excellent design, troubleshooting, and documentation skills required.
    • Proven ability to perform complex engineering analysis and calculations.
    • Strong attention to detail required.
    • Proficiency with audio analyzers and oscilloscopes required.
    • Proven ability to work well in a cross‑functional team environment.
    • Ability to work with minimal guidance to make decisions and report progress.
    • Professional communication and interpersonal skills required.
    • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills required.
    • Must be self‑motivated and able to work in a fast‑paced environment.
    • Ability to keep current with new technologies and industry trends.

Salary and Other Compensation

The target rate for this position is between $78,540 to $102,000/year. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
