Job description

OrthAlign, Inc., a Smart Technologies, growing medical device company, has an immediate opening for an Electrical Engineer. The Electrical Engineer II supports the hardware design and manufacturing of sensor-based technology solutions for next-generation medical devices. This role works closely with Electrical, Software, Mechanical Engineering, and Operations teams to prototype new designs, develop and execute test plans, investigate failures, and improve product performance and reliability.

This position reports daily to our headquarters in Irvine, CA; this is not a remote position.

You will:

• Troubleshoot electrical and electronic issues using oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators, and other laboratory equipment.
• Analyze test results, identify failures and root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
• Support component selection, qualification, and end-of-life component replacement activities.

• Design, build, and test electrical prototypes and engineering development units.
• Support research and development activities for new and existing medical device products
• Develop and execute electrical and system-level test plans to evaluate product performance, reliability, and functionality.
• Support implementation and validation of new product features and electrical designs.
• Participate in engineering design reviews and drive action items to completion.
• Support design-for-manufacturing, design-for-test, and design-for-cost considerations throughout product development.
• Maintain accurate engineering documentation, test results, and defect tracking records.

• Develop and improve existing test methods, fixtures, processes, and engineering practices.
• Collaborate with Software, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Field Service teams to resolve technical issues and improve product performance.

You need:

• Strong proficiency using MS Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and PDF software
• Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Results-oriented with appropriate urgency
• Self-motivated with the ability to work as a collaborative team member as well as independently
• Excellent attention to detail, producing high quality output
• Flexibility and strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize multiple tasks
• Applies sound judgment when making decisions and communicating with internal and external customers
• Experience designing, prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting electronic systems
• Experience with schematic capture and PCB design/layout tools; Altium experience is preferred
• Working knowledge of: DC/DC converters and power management, analog and digital circuit design, sensor interfaces, and embedded systems architecture
• Familiarity with communication protocols such as I2C, UART, USB, and MIPI
• Hands on experience using oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators, and other electrical test equipment
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify root causes and develop practical solutions.
• Ability to learn, understand, and communicate technical product requirements and engineering concepts
• Experience working in a medical device or other regulated industry
