Job Summary
Engineeringwork related to developing procurement and application specifications fordesign, construction, installation, and operation of the electricaldistribution utility system. Primary responsibilities include review andmanagement of construction specifications, system materials specifications, andequipment service reliability. Knowledge of material and equipment testing andanalysis is required to determine failure causes while providingrecommendations to mitigate future failures.
Additionally, they will collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and maintainelectric design and service standards while promoting safe and efficient systemoperations through technical guidance and training for designers, line workers,and operations personnel. The role will provide technical services andconsultation to other engineers and staff to guide budgets and capitalimprovement projects. This role will provide oversight and review of similarwork for lower-level Electrical Engineers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.
- Apply knowledge of electricalengineering and related disciplines to support the development andrevision of materials specifications and construction standards forelectric materials and equipment consistent with acceptable practices andstandards.
- Coordinates with industrytechnical experts and manufacturing representatives to provide electricalproduct knowledge training for Light & Power staff and supportinstallation of equipment per Utilities Light and Power constructionstandards and guidelines.
- Assists in the analysis andreview of quotations, proposals, and bids to help in analysis of totalowning cost and conformance to specifications.
- Assists in the development oftechnical specifications and stock item descriptions using availableinformation from vendors and industry.
- Seeks input and works with userpersonnel to help development and revision of guidelines and standards tosupport continuous improvement.
- Supports field or designpersonnel with technical support and questions related to theimplementation of specific construction plans for field installationprojects and special design projects.
- Evaluate, record, and trackmaterial and equipment failures to identify root cause of failures.
- Perform data-driven analysis ofmaterial and equipment failures to identify trends of failures to initiateproactive maintenance programs and processes to support Light &Power’s electrical distribution system reliability goals and metrics.
- May assist with and help toanalyze information from power flow studies to support electric systemdesign and development of customer loading guidelines.
- May assist with the selection anddesign of substation equipment additions and upgrades.
- May assist with distributedenergy resources planning and interconnection standards development.
