Position Overview

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to support the design, reliability, modernization, and operation of electrical and control systems across industrial facilities.

This position will work closely with operations, maintenance, project management, construction, and outside engineering firms. The engineer will provide technical support for new capital projects, facility expansions, equipment upgrades, system troubleshooting, and reliability improvements.

The ideal candidate will have experience with industrial power distribution, electric motors, protective relaying, electrical studies, and applicable electrical codes. Exposure to instrumentation, PLC-based controls, and automated process systems is highly desirable.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop, review, and improve electrical designs for new and existing industrial facilities.
  • Specify and evaluate electrical equipment, engineered systems, and specialized components.
  • Support power generation, utility connections, electrical distribution, motor control, plant control logic, emergency power, lighting, grounding, alarm, and shutdown systems.
  • Prepare technical scopes, equipment specifications, bid packages, proposal comparisons, and vendor recommendations.
  • Perform or review power-system studies involving short-circuit current, load flow, voltage drop, motor starting, protective-device coordination, load shedding, and arc-flash hazards.
  • Use electrical modeling software such as ETAP, SKM PowerTools, or comparable platforms.
  • Provide technical guidance regarding the National Electrical Code, NFPA requirements, API guidance, and other applicable engineering standards.
  • Troubleshoot motors, motor starters, variable-frequency drives, protective relays, switchgear, motor control centers, transformers, and related equipment.
  • Investigate equipment failures, system limitations, and recurring electrical problems at operating facilities.
  • Recommend modifications that improve electrical reliability, operating safety, maintainability, and energy efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain engineering specifications, electrical standards, and hazardous-area classification documentation.
  • Review drawings, calculations, equipment selections, and studies prepared by third-party engineering firms.
  • Confirm that contractor designs comply with company requirements, project objectives, and accepted industry practices.
  • Prepare preliminary budgets, project cost estimates, authorization-level estimates, and technical scopes of work.
  • Provide field engineering support during construction, commissioning, startup, maintenance, and facility modifications.
  • Coordinate smaller engineering projects while monitoring schedules, costs, technical quality, and field execution.
  • Support multiple projects and operating priorities simultaneously.
  • Participate in technical meetings, project reviews, and industry events as needed.
  • Perform additional engineering responsibilities based on operational and project requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • At least three years of relevant electrical engineering experience in an industrial environment.
  • Experience designing, analyzing, or supporting industrial power-distribution systems.
  • Working knowledge of electrical distribution equipment and protective-relaying applications.
  • Experience with electric motors, motor starters, motor-protection relays, and variable-frequency drives.
  • Experience using ETAP, SKM PowerTools, or similar software to perform or review electrical-system studies.
  • Understanding of short-circuit calculations, protective-device coordination, arc-flash analysis, voltage-drop calculations, and load-flow studies.
  • Familiarity with preventive and predictive maintenance practices for electrical equipment.
  • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA, API, and other standards applicable to industrial electrical systems.
  • Ability to develop technical scopes, evaluate proposals, review bids, and support project budgeting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with operations personnel, technicians, contractors, engineers, project managers, and leadership.
  • Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Dependable attendance and the ability to respond to operational priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Electrical engineering experience within midstream oil and gas, natural gas processing, pipeline, petrochemical, refining, terminal, or similar process facilities.
  • Experience supporting compressor stations, gas plants, fractionation facilities, terminals, or pipeline operations.
  • Familiarity with PLC programming or troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of analog instrumentation, digital control systems, process controls, and safety shutdown systems.
  • Experience providing field engineering support during construction, commissioning, or startup.
  • Professional Engineer license or Engineer-in-Training certification is beneficial but not required.
Work Requirements
  • Ability to travel approximately 30%--40%, depending on project and operational needs.
