Job summary

Elbit America in Roanoke, VA, seeks an Electronics Design Engineer to join the Electrical Engineering group. You’ll work on electronic design, power supplies, analog circuits, and embedded systems, from concept to prototypes and production release.

The role emphasizes PCB layouts, design verification, and collaboration with cross‑functional teams to reduce cost and improve reliability. A hands‑on contributor with strong communication is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering or closely related field.
  • 1–2 years of electrical engineering or MSEE experience.
  • Experience with high voltage design, low power, ultra-dense packaging, miniature devices, magnetics, EMI filtering, power supply control theory, manufacturing of power supply and/or high voltage circuits.
  • Experience with Failure Analysis of electronic circuits.
  • Experience with digital electronics, DSPs, PGAs, FPGAs, PICs and Microcontrollers/Microprocessors (STM32 and MSP430 in particular).
  • Experience with closed‑loop feedback systems.
  • Ability to effectively communicate design and engineering requirements.
  • Able to work as part of a cross‑functional team.
  • Capability to develop and conduct electrical tests including troubleshooting.
  • MS Office skills: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.
  • Ability to obtain Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop electronic controls for the next‑generation Elbit America products.
  • Develop schematics and PCB layouts in Cadence, Mentor Graphics or Altium.
  • Develop and maintain the electronics project schedule, evaluation/test plan, electronics build plan, and electronics parts tracker, including cost data.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams in the Lean development process.
  • Maintain comprehensive hardware requirement specifications for the controls.
  • Apply Six Sigma and reliability engineering methods to new designs.
  • Perform reliability qualification and growth testing on the controls.
  • Verify design robustness with EMI product‑level testing.
  • Coordinate control fabrication and qualification with the selected contract manufacturer.
  • Own the development of all project documentation, including specifications and drawings.

Job Overview:

This position is for an Electronics Design Engineer who will work in the Electrical Engineering group and report to the Electrical Engineering Manager. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of electronic design, power supply design, analog circuitry, embedded systems, etc.

Responsibilities will include the layout of new or existing PWB/PCB designs, debug and testing of new designs, component design, starting from the product concept to breadboard proof of circuitry, to prototypes and production release.

Work includes preparation of project proposals; circuit design and analysis; PC board layout concept & requirements; mechanical design supervision and concept formulation; stress and reliability analysis of circuitry; component specification, de-rating and selection; cost analysis; and preparation of product documentation.

The individual will be responsible for the design of new products and the upgrading of existing products to reduce cost, add features, improve performance & reliability, and to incorporate embedded technology in those designs. Experience with SPICE and design software (Cadence, Mentor Graphics, or Altium), circuit miniaturization, and high voltage technology are highly preferred.

This position requires strong communication skills (verbal and written) delivered in a timely manner and may include daily interaction with engineers at other Elbit locations. The candidate may be required to prepare and maintain project schedules, and to support the activities of electronics technicians and interns. The individual will be expected to work in a hands‑on manner and working as a team or individual contributor.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain the electronics project schedule, evaluation/test plan, electronics build plan, and Electronics Parts tracker, including cost data.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams in the Lean development process
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive hardware requirement specifications for the controls
  • Use Six Sigma and reliability engineering methodology to prove and implement the new designs
  • Complete reliability qualification & growth testing on the controls
  • Verify design robustness by completing EMI product level testing
  • Complete certification of the controls in collaboration with a third‑party agency, as necessary
  • Coordinate control fabrication and qualification with the selected contract manufacturer
  • Own the development of all project documentation, including specifications and drawings.

Candidate Requirements:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering or closely related field
  • One to two years’ experience in electrical engineering or MSEE
  • Experience with any of the following: high voltage design, low power, ultra‑dense, electronic packaging, miniature electronic devices, magnetics, EMI filtering, power supply control theory, manufacturing of power supply and/or high voltage circuits
  • Experience with Failure Analysis of electronic circuits.
