We are looking for an Electrical Engineer to lead power distribution reliability, equipment troubleshooting, and electrical safety across our continuous-process plant. You will be the technical authority on site for everything from high-voltage substation feeds down to 480V motor circuits and plant automation.
What You'll Do
- Own Electrical Safety: Oversee the site’s electrical safety program, ensuring full compliance with NFPA 70E, arc flash standards, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and MSHA/OSHA safety regulations.
- Power & Infrastructure: Manage the maintenance, testing, and upkeep of our utility substation, medium- and low-voltage switchgear, transformers, motor control centers (MCCs), industrial battery/UPS systems, and backup generators.
- Troubleshooting & Uptime: Partner with maintenance mechanics, electricians, and production staff to diagnose electrical issues on large motors, kilns, ball mills, crushers, conveyors, and dust collection systems to keep unplanned downtime to a minimum.
- Preventive & Predictive Maintenance: Run the plant’s electrical PdM programs—including thermal imaging, motor circuit analysis, insulation testing (meggering), and relay testing. Maintain strategic spares for key transformers, large motors, and drives.
- Capital Scopes & Modifications: Specify, estimate, and oversee electrical capital upgrades and equipment retrofits from initial scope through commissioning and contractor sign-off.
- Drives & Heavy Equipment: Support large AC/DC motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), soft starters, and wound-rotor motors with liquid resistance starters.
- Shutdowns & Outages: Plan, schedule, and execute electrical repair and inspection work during annual plant overhauls and planned kiln/mill shutdowns.
- Engineering Drawings & Studies: Keep one-line diagrams, prints, and arc flash/coordination studies up to date.
- Power Quality: Monitor power factor, harmonics (IEEE 519), and power usage to find opportunities to trim peak demand and energy costs.
What You Bring
- Education: B.S. in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited program required).
- Experience: 2+ years working around industrial power distribution, large drives, and heavy motors. Background in cement, aggregate processing, mining, chemical, pulp & paper, or heavy manufacturing is strongly preferred.
- Medium Voltage: Practical background with medium-voltage equipment (4.16 kV up to 13.8 kV) and digital relays (SEL, GE Multilin, or similar).
- Controls Exposure: Familiarity with heavy-industry control platforms (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar PLCs/HMIs).
- Industry Standards: Clear working understanding of NFPA 70E and experience with arc flash and coordination analysis. An EIT or PE license is a plus, but not required.
Requirements:
- Authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and work extended hours during major plant outages or critical breakdowns.
