Job description

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to join a small, highly technical engineering team in the Greater Austin area. This is an opportunity for an engineer who enjoys hands‑on design, solving challenging technical problems, and seeing projects through from initial concept to working hardware.

Our client is an established, privately held engineering and technology company developing advanced electronic systems for specialized applications. Unlike larger organizations where engineers may focus on one small piece of a project, this position offers exposure to the complete engineering process, including design, prototyping, testing, troubleshooting, and production.

We're looking for someone with a strong foundation in electrical engineering who is curious, technically driven, and interested in expanding their capabilities.

What You'll Do
  • Design and develop electronic circuits, control systems, and related hardware.
  • Create and modify electrical schematics and PCB layouts.
  • Work with analog and digital electronics, sensors, and control interfaces.
  • Support embedded controllers, microcontrollers, and firmware integration.
  • Develop and troubleshoot PLC and non‑PLC‑based control systems as applicable.
  • Participate in hardware prototyping, board bring‑up, testing, and validation.
  • Use simulation and measurement tools to evaluate and improve designs.
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and other laboratory equipment.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers and technicians to integrate electronic systems.
  • Support projects from initial design through manufacturing and production.
  • Prepare technical documentation, drawings, and operating instructions.
  • Occasionally support installation and testing activities.
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related engineering field.
  • Strong understanding of electrical circuits, analog/digital electronics, and fundamental engineering principles.
  • Experience with electrical schematics, circuit design, or PCB development.
  • Familiarity with electrical testing, troubleshooting, and laboratory equipment.
  • Exposure to electronic controls, microcontrollers, or embedded systems.
  • Ability to explain technical decisions, troubleshoot problems, and work independently.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
Experience That Would Be a Plus

You do not need experience with every technology listed below. We're interested in engineers with strong fundamentals and the ability to learn.

  • Altium Designer, OrCAD, KiCad, or similar PCB design software.
  • Embedded C/C++, STM32, PIC, ARM, or other microcontrollers.
  • MATLAB, LabVIEW, PSpice, or other engineering simulation tools.
  • PLC programming or industrial control systems.
  • Power electronics, high‑voltage systems, or electromagnetic compatibility (EMI/EMC).
  • Hardware/firmware integration and debugging.
  • Experience designing and building electronic systems through academic projects, internships, or professional work.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
  • Hands‑on engineering: Work directly with hardware rather than being limited to documentation or oversight.
  • Full project exposure: Participate in design, prototyping, troubleshooting, and production.
  • Technical variety: Work across electronic hardware, controls, testing, and system integration.
  • Small‑team environment: Collaborate directly with experienced engineers and technical leadership.
  • Professional growth: Develop expertise in specialized electronics and advanced engineering applications.
  • Established organization: Join a company with a long history of engineering innovation and product development.
Who Would Thrive Here?

An engineer who enjoys figuring out how things work, building and troubleshooting electronics, and taking ownership of technical challenges.

You might be a recent graduate with meaningful hands‑on project experience, an engineer with a few years of hardware development experience, or someone looking to transition into a more design‑focused environment.

If you enjoy designing circuits, working with real hardware, and learning new technologies, we'd like to hear from you.
