Job summary

Optivolt in San Francisco, CA seeks an Electrical Engineer to design hardware powering our intelligent solar hub and to own embedded electronics, system architecture, sensing and power management. You will collaborate with firmware, mechanical, test and manufacturing teams to bring products from concept through production.

This hands-on role requires 3+ years shipping hardware, strong PCB design with Altium, and experience with UART/SPI/I2C/CAN or Ethernet.

Qualifications

• Shipped hardware experience.
• Strong analog and digital circuit fundamentals.
• Experience with microcontrollers, interfaces and power management.
• PCB schematic capture and layout proficiency (Altium).
• Bench testing with oscilloscopes, analyzers and power supplies.
• Knowledge of UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet or similar interfaces.
• Ability to take designs from concept to validated hardware.

Responsibilities

• Own the electronics behind the Hub: embedded control boards, interfaces, sensing, power management.
• Own Hub electrical architecture including microcontrollers and connectivity.
• Develop schematics, lay out PCBs, and lead hardware design reviews.
• Integrate wired/wireless communications (PLC, Bluetooth, etc.).
• Bring up prototypes, debug hardware, firmware and system faults.
• Make tradeoffs for low power, reliability, thermal performance, cost, manufacturability.
• Collaborate with firmware/software on interfaces and telemetry.
• Develop validation procedures and support environmental testing and manufacturing ramp.
