Knowit Training is seeking an Electrical Engineer for dry type transformer design and development in Bristol, WI. The role focuses on design, analysis, testing, and continuous improvement of medium/low voltage transformers, collaborating with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Sales, and R&D teams.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years in dry-type transformer engineering, strong technical knowledge, and the ability to lead projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive engineering experience within the dry type electrical distribution transformer industry required.
  • Experience with medium voltage and low voltage transformer design strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Dry-Type Transformers required.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing operations in a high-volume industrial environment preferred.
  • Prior experience in sustaining engineering, product development, or R&D engineering environments preferred.
  • Strong understanding of: Electromagnetic theory, Electrical power systems, Thermal dynamics, Insulation systems, Short-circuit analysis.
  • Knowledge of transformer materials including: Copper and aluminum windings, Insulation systems.
  • Proficiency in electrical calculations and engineering analysis tools.
  • Experience interpreting and applying: IEEE standards, ANSI standards, NEMA standards, DOE efficiency regulations
  • Familiarity with ERP and engineering systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical distribution dry type transformers.
  • Perform electrical calculations and analysis related to core and coil design, thermal performance, short-circuit withstand capability, voltage regulation, and efficiency optimization.
  • Develop and review transformer drawings, schematics, BOMs, and engineering documentation.
  • Interpret and apply customer specifications, technical standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) initiatives from concept through production launch.
  • Evaluate design alternatives for manufacturability, reliability, performance, and cost efficiency.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and corrective actions for product failures and field issues.
  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering and Operations to improve quality and throughput.
  • Provide technical support to production during assembly, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, delivery, and cost reduction.
  • Review and resolve production non-conformances and engineering deviations.
  • Participate in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma initiatives.
  • Assist in implementing engineering changes and maintaining configuration control.
  • Support electrical testing activities including routine testing, design validation testing, impulse testing.
  • Ensure compliance with IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, DOE regulations, and CSA/UL as applicable.
  • Analyze test data and prepare technical reports and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with Quality teams on warranty claims and customer concerns.
  • Interface with customers, suppliers, and internal teams on technical requirements and solutions.
  • Provide engineering support to Sales during quotation and bid reviews.
  • Participate in customer meetings and technical reviews as required.
  • Mentor junior engineers and engineering technicians.
  • Support strategic initiatives involving product standardization, cost optimization, and innovation.
  • Travel to Reynosa, MX or Celina, TN once a month.
