Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Electrical Engineer to lead design teams for diverse projects, from offices to healthcare and industrial facilities. You will guide the design and construction phases, adapting plans to budget and client needs, and coordinate across disciplines to deliver high-quality electrical systems.

The role requires ABET-credentialed degrees and at least 3 years of electrical engineering experience, with strong communication and CAD skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related ABET program with 3+ years experience; consulting preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or related Engineering Technology from ABET program, FE exam passed, and 3+ years experience; consulting preferred.
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering and minimum 2 years of electrical engineering experience; consulting preferred.
  • Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Strong computer skills include AutoCAD, MicroStation, 2D and 3D rendering programs and other analysis programs.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Engineers in Training-EIT Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical design of projects from conceptual phase through design completion.
  • Prepare electrical equipment specifications, RFQs, technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
  • Review electrical vendor drawings and data interfaces with suppliers and other disciplines.
  • Participate in project scheduling, scope, budget staffing, and construction planning; manage change orders.
  • Apply expert knowledge of electrical concepts, codes, and procedures.
  • Develop non-standard design solutions for complex projects.
  • Quality review drawings and project data across CAD platforms.
  • Coordinate QA/QC and field inspections; resolve design issues on site.
  • Lead field inspections, measurements, or calculations for clients.
  • Prepare and present technical reports for clients and publications.
  • Build relationships with clients and contractors and pursue new opportunities.
  • Support sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits.
  • Lead cost proposals and qualification statements; manage budgets and performance reporting.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to engineers; ensure QA/QC adherence.
  • Communicate effectively with other engineering disciplines; ensure safety policies.

Description

The Electrical Engineer will lead electrical design project teams to create designs for new projects, alterations and redevelopments on a variety of projects including commercial office and headquarters buildings educational facilities, healthcare facilities, power plant support buildings, process and industrial facilities, warehouse and storage facilities, and some governmental and military facilities. The Electrical Engineer will lead the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting electrical plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs.

  • Lead electrical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.
  • Prepare electrical equipment: packaged equipment specifications and data sheets, Request for Qualifications (RFQ's), technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
  • Review electrical equipment vendor drawings; data interface with suppliers, clients other engineering disciplines, detailers, designers.
  • Participate in development of project schedule, scope, budget staffing planning and construction planning. Responsible for effective management of change orders.
  • Applies expert knowledge of commonly used electrical concepts, practices, codes and procedures within the electrical engineering services industry.
  • Applies knowledge and experience to complex projects, find non-standard design solutions.
  • Quality review production drawings for a variety of projects and project related data as required by the project managers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD related software.
  • Quality review the construction administration including coordination with field personnel to resolve design related installation issues, calculations, field inspections and testing of electrical systems.
  • Leads field inspections, installation, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.
  • Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
  • Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers and contractors and develop new business opportunities.
  • Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction goals and expectations are met.
  • Participate sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits.
  • Lead the development of cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.
  • Prepare and present project budgets and cost estimates. Report project performance.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to the electrical engineering practice. Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.
  • Responsible for QA/QC process adherence.
  • Responsible for effective communication with other engineering disciplines.
  • Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program and minimum 3 years of electrical engineering experience, consulting preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and minimum 3 years of electrical engineering experience, consulting preferred.
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering and minimum 2 years of electrical engineering experience, consulting preferred.
  • Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
