Job summary

Klingner & Associates, P.C. in Cape Girardeau, MO is seeking an Electrical Engineer with strong design experience for water/wastewater and industrial projects. You will prepare detailed electrical designs, drawings, specs, and cost estimates.

The role covers power distribution, control systems, SCADA integration, NEC compliance, and coordination with architects and in-house teams. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • BSEE from ABET-accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineer licensure is highly preferred (or the ability to obtain licensure within 6 months).
  • If not licensed, 2+ years of documented experience working under a licensed PE is preferred.
  • Proficiency with NEC, NFPA 70E, and IEEE standards.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed electrical designs, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for lighting, power distribution, standby power generation, and grounding systems.
  • Design power, control, and instrumentation systems for water/wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, and industrial facilities (including SCADA integration, PLC hardware layouts, and MCCs).
  • Develop electrical plans for light commercial, municipal, and institutional buildings in compliance with NEC and local codes.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and in-house teams to deliver cohesive project packages.
  • Perform electrical calculations (short-circuit, arc flash, coordination, voltage drop) using industry software.
  • Review submittals, respond to RFIs, and conduct site visits to ensure design conformance.
  • Communicate effectively and manage tasks to meet budgets and schedules.
  • Attend project meetings and travel as needed.

Job description

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO | Klingner & Associates, P.C. is seeking an Electrical Engineer.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed electrical engineering designs; drawings; specifications; and cost estimates for lighting, power distribution, standby power generation, and grounding systems.
  • Design power; control; and instrumentation systems specifically for water / wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, and industrial processing facilities (including SCADA integration, PLC hardware layouts, and motor control centers).
  • Develop electrical plans for light commercial, municipal, and institutional buildings in compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local building codes.
  • Work closely with architects, engineers, and other in-house departments to deliver cohesive, multi-disciplinary project packages.
  • Perform electrical system calculations (e.g., short-circuit, arc flash, overcurrent coordination, and voltage drop) using industry-standard software.
  • Review contractor submittals, respond to RFIs, and conduct occasional site visits to observe construction progress and ensure compliance with design documents.
  • Collaborate in a team environment as well as self-manage and self-motivate to meet project task deadlines and commitments within your projects’ budgets and schedules.
  • Use good written and verbal communication skills coupled with strong organizational skills to complete projects.
  • Attend and actively participate in project team meetings.
  • Travel as necessary to support project tasks.
  • Comply with Klingner office standards.
  • Develop and promote positive working relationships with local clients.
Qualifications
  • 5-10+ years of progressive electrical design experience, with a proven track record in both commercial building systems and heavy industrial / water resource environments.
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is highly preferred (or the ability to obtain licensure within 6 months).
  • If not yet licensed, 2+ years of documented experience working under a licensed PE is preferred.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Revit MEP is a must.
  • Demonstrated experience with electrical system analysis software (SKM Power*Tools or ETAP) is a strong plus.
  • Deep familiarity with National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 70E, and relevant IEEE standards.
  • Possess strong analytical problem-solving abilities, excellent verbal and written communication skills, within a collaborative, multi-disciplined team-oriented environment.

Salary Range: $35-$50

Salaries may vary based on experience and qualifications. The listed ranges are typical.
