Job summary

Apple seeks a dedicated Camera Hardware Engineer to advance camera modules from sensor to lens, collaborating across teams to design, test and qualify camera hardware for future Apple products. You will drive component-level requirements, supervise PCB/ Flex layouts, address power and signal integrity, and document designs for manufacturing partners.

Hands-on lab work and teamwork are essential in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Qualifications

• BS or higher in EE/CE/Physics or related field.
• Strong analog/digital circuit design experience.
• Experience with grounding, shielding, EMI/ESD considerations.

Responsibilities

• Independently drive component-level requirements and develop schematic designs for camera modules.
• Analyze parasitics and tolerances to ensure operation across voltage/temperature.
• Supervise PCB, Flex, and substrate layouts.
• Address power quality and high-speed signal integrity challenges.
• Create clear electrical documentation for design and manufacturing partners.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to simulate, test, and validate designs.
• Develop prototypes for new camera features and concepts.
• Travel may be required but not essential.

You’ll collaborate with teams across Apple to research, design, develop, test, and qualify camera hardware for Apple products. Together, we’ll craft a magical photography experience that redefines what millions of customers can expect from their cameras.

Description

The Camera Hardware Engineering group is responsible for the design, development, and innovation of camera hardware for all related Apple products. Our target is to deliver extraordinary hardware to enable outstanding camera user experience. We are looking for an enthusiastic, passionate individual who can help us with tomorrow’s challenges!

Responsibilities

• Independently drive component level requirements, and develop schematic designs for innovative camera modules components containing image sensors, microcontrollers, low-noise power supplies, AF/OIS drivers, and high-speed serial interfaces
• Analyze circuit parasitics and tolerances to ensure correct operation over the specified voltage and temperature ranges
• Supervise layout for PCB, Flex, and substrates
• Experience resolving challenges relating to power quality, high-speed signal integrity and control interfaces.
• Author clear and comprehensive electrical documentation for design and manufacturing partners to complete design, test and validation
• Collaborate with X-functional teams to simulate, test, and validate performance of all designs
• Develop electronic prototypes for new camera features and product concepts
• Occasional travel may be required, but is not a critical component of this position

Minimum Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or related field
• Analog and/or digital circuit design including Schematics capture and/or supervising layout for substrate, rigid PCB, or Flex
• Experience in signal and power integrity (High-speed design, PDN analysis)
• Experience in system integration knowledge for grounding, shielding, EMI, EMC and ESD

Preferred Qualifications

• Masters of Science or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or related field with 3 years of relevant industry experience.
• Knowledge of layout strategies for Substrates, Rigid PCB, Flex, or Rigid-Flex including good understanding of material selection, Stack-up planning and noise suppression
• Experience with high-speed interfaces : MIPI, DisplayPort, HDMI, PCIE etc., circuits and designs: LDO, Buck, ADC, DAC, Op-AMP, etc., and control interface like I2C, SPI, SPMI, UART, etc.
• Hands-on lab experience with hardware bring-up and debug
• Experience with high volume consumer electronics design for manufacturing, testing and reliability (DFM, DFT, DFR)
• Knowledge of CMOS image sensor, ISP or image processing
• Excellent written, verbal and communication skills focused on teamwork and collaboration in a dynamic cross-functional environment
• Statistical data analysis and visualization (ex. JMP)

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $142,300 and $214,300, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
