Job summary

Apple seeks an extraordinary Hardware Engineer to lead camera hardware projects, developing high-performance compact camera modules from sensor to lens. You will own mechanical designs, packaging, and validation in collaboration with product teams.

The role requires 3+ years in miniature component or opto-mechanical module design for high-volume products, with expertise in CAD, FEA, and tolerance analysis. VCM experience is a plus.

Description

The Camera Hardware Engineering group is responsible for all research, design, development, test, and qualification of camera hardware for Apple products. We are searching for an extraordinary Hardware Engineer to take ownership in the development of very high-performance compact camera modules. We are seeking an engineer to take leadership of camera hardware projects in engagements with product and technology teams.

Responsibilities
  • Design camera module structures and packaging in CAD.
  • Design injection molded, sheet metal, PCB, and other component parts.
  • Author detailed 2D manufacturing and inspection drawings.
  • Perform rigorous tolerance analysis of module designs and component parts.
  • Work with component part and camera manufacturing partners on design manufacturability and resolution of mechanical issues.
  • Author clear documentation on mechanical inspection and test requirements.
  • Direct FEA engineers on evaluation of camera designs.
  • Ideal candidate will have 3+ years of relevant experience in the design of miniature component or opto-mechanical module for high-volume products.
  • Possess a proven record of project ownership and working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Having experience with magnetic simulation and voice coil motor (VCM) for camera is a definite plus.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Optical Science, Physics, or related field
  • Mechanical design using CAD 3D molding and drafting package
  • Structural and thermal Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's or PhD degree and 10+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Experience with NX
  • Tolerance analysis experience of high complexity and precision mechanical designs with excellent understanding of GD&T
  • Experience designing for plastic injection molding and metal stamping for mass production
  • Experience with various materials (research, selection, testing, process ability)
  • Magnetic simulation and voice coil motor (VCM) for camera

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $184,700 and $324,800, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
