WSP USA is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join the Property & Buildings Team in St. Louis, Missouri. You will design and deliver electrical systems for a diverse portfolio including commercial, healthcare, higher education, and civic projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams from concept through construction.

This role emphasizes growth in technical expertise, project delivery, and adherence to industry standards, with exposure to site investigations and construction administration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architectural Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience designing electrical systems for buildings.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
  • Working knowledge of NEC, IBC, and other applicable codes and standards.
  • Experience preparing electrical construction documents and specifications.
  • Experience with Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and support the development of building electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, lighting controls, and fire alarm systems.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical specifications, reports, and construction documents.
  • Perform load calculations, voltage drop studies, short-circuit analyses, and coordination studies.
  • Develop project designs and construction documentation using Revit, AutoCAD, and related software.
  • Coordinate with architects, structural/mechanical/plumbing engineers, clients, and project stakeholders.
  • Participate in project meetings and contribute to delivery efforts.
  • Conduct site investigations, facility assessments, and construction observation activities.

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Electrical Engineer to join our Property & Buildings Team in St. Louis, Missouri.

This opportunity is ideal for an electrical engineer with experience designing building electrical systems who is looking to grow their technical expertise while contributing to a diverse portfolio of projects. In this role, you will support the planning, design, and delivery of electrical systems for commercial, healthcare, higher education, civic, mixed-use, and other general building projects throughout the region. Working alongside experienced engineers and multidisciplinary teams, you will contribute to all phases of project development, from concept design through construction administration.

Your Impact
  • Design and support the development of building electrical systems including:
    • Power distribution systems
    • Interior and exterior lighting systems
    • Lighting controls
    • Emergency and standby power systems
    • Fire alarm systems
    • Low-voltage and special systems
  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical specifications, reports, and construction documents.
  • Perform power system analyses including electrical load calculations, voltage drop studies, short-circuit analyses, and coordination studies.
  • Develop project designs and construction documentation utilizing Revit, AutoCAD, and related engineering software.
  • Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, plumbing engineers, clients, and other project stakeholders.
  • Participate in project meetings and contribute to project delivery efforts.
  • Conduct site investigations, facility assessments, and construction observation activities.
  • Review shop drawings, product submittals, and requests for information (RFIs).
  • Support project managers with project execution, scheduling, budgeting, and quality management efforts.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of applicable building codes, electrical codes, and industry standards.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architectural Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program. Alternate ABET-accredited degrees related to building systems and/or construction will be considered on a case by case basis.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience designing electrical systems for buildings.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), International Building Code (IBC), and other applicable codes and standards.
  • Experience preparing electrical construction documents and specifications.
  • Experience with Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and prioritize workload to meet project schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Experience in consulting engineering for commercial, healthcare, higher education, institutional, civic, mixed-use, or science & technology facilities.
  • Experience with AGi32, SKM PowerTools, ETAP, or similar engineering software.
  • Experience supporting projects through construction administration.
  • LEED Accredited Professional, LEED Green Associate, or other sustainability-related credential.
  • Familiarity with energy-efficient and sustainable building design practices.

Compensation

Expected Salary: $82,800 - $118,400

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
